I'm guessing he installed the Tor browser, and the CP he wanted to download was a torrent, so it either automatically installed, or he installed a torrent client, which wasn't "tor"-ified and just downloaded on his real IP. He might have thought that because he clicked a link from the Tor browser, it would hide him.

TLC made them all that way I'm sure, they're more than likely hard wired since birth when they see a camera to wave and smile; I'm sure their father was instrumental for making that happen. While we're on the subject- it would make so much sense if Josh learned all the tricks of his disgusting trade from his dad, and that's why he's pulling out all the stops to protect his son; add the Right's projection machine running full tilt, and hell- maybe the people at TLC were operating a cp ring and distribution ring right under everyone's noses. Most stories about the show have these kids as sheltered as humanly possible, to the point where if they saw a woman who wasn't in a potato sack on the street the parents would yell Nike and the kids were supposed to look away or cover their eyes until the parents said it was okay to look again. I think one of the sisters who was molested by Josh was even ostracized from the family for seeking out regular therapy about it.

The family owns multiple planes, though apparently they sold a few before this trial. Several of the oldest daughters have become mediocre influencers, and are married to failsons from other equally stupid but less well known hillbilly families. The estranged daughter (Jill) married a guy who has graduated law school but not actually passed the bar so isn't actually practicing anywhere.
