PetraCore posted:My impression is Ariana Grande has that mediterranean skin type that tans pretty dark but gets super pale if you let it, which is fine, it's just her skin, but she's also definitely leaned into tanning and fake tans and cultural markers to present herself in an ethnically ambiguous way, which isn't. It's not that she shouldn't have skin as dark as Nicki Minaj ever, because it's very possible she just tans like that if she's out in the sun, but when it's combined with other stuff... I guess I would accept that more if she wavered back and forth between pale and tan, but it's just been a steady darkening over her career. Then there's the extra hosed layer of various magazine covers having her skin be very light in comparison (which of course magazine covers have been known to do).

I mean, we're we born because we had no choice in the matter. If everyone were suddenly magically given the ability to rescind their birth, a good chunk of humanity would start blinking out of existence pretty drat quick.

There's also a chance that it came from pressure for roles and contracts and by now it would be awkward to undo it. I know a person who changed the spelling of their last name and leaned into their darker skin to pretend to be latina for roles, and now can't really undo that. Though this person also does have some family ties to Mexico, but their skintone actually comes from Lebanese relatives. Their Mexican family is pretty pale and frequently blonde. Now that their career has taken off more, they really can't walk it back.

Hey baby, want to boop my beans? I knew NFTs weren’t going to get better but I didn’t expect them to get so much worse so quickly. I wish they wouldn’t sell and he could be embarrassed but I’m sure they will and I’m not sure hBen has the capacity for embarrassment.

For all his dumb, Garrison is at least a decent artist. But now that NFTs are involved its just another series of clipart nightmare fuel. Shouldve made buff trump minifigs and he'd make bank in the griftosphere

It never ceases to amaze me how hideously ugly these things always turn out to be. Why would anyone willingly pay money for this garbage? Grifting people by trying to monetize the concept of ownership for digital artwork is stupid enough by itself, but there's so little effort put into this that I don't understand how anyone could possibly fall for it.

Well, the art itself isn't scarce at all - anyone can save a copy of the actual picture. All that's in it for the actual owner is the idea of owning an NFT. And if that's what you're selling, why bother shelling out for good art from a proper artist? There's probably some crossover with the typo-ridden scam email effect too. By not having any actually desirable art you filter out the people who understand and care that owning an NFT means gently caress all.

It's just weird to see major celebrities, including actual artists who should certainly know better, shilling for this stuff. They're already monstrously wealthy and can (presumably) afford to buy actual art. Why would they care about Appalling Apes or Crapulent Cheetahs or whatever? I guess I just hate how we're living in a world where adding the word "blockchain" to the most obvious scam imaginable suddenly makes it mysterious and alluring.

You can expand that question out to include all sorts of dumb celebrity side businesses. Like we all make fun of GOOP, but why does Gwyneth Paltrow need to run a scam lifestyle brand? Lots of celebs outed themselves as landlords when they "graciously" gave their tenants a single free month on rent in the early pandemic. It baffles me because (on paper, at least) being a movie star seems like one of the least greasy ways to become a millionaire.
