That reminds me when a friend and I watched Fast & Furious and I asked my friend (a fluent Spanish speaker) what language Tego Calderon and Don Omar's characters were speaking, not knowing who were and them being Puerto Rican, and he tells me it's Spanish. Being from LA I've been around all kinds of Spanish but I couldn't even find it to be recognizable and I asked my friend if he understood any of their dialogue and just went, "Nope, I get a few words every now and then but it's basically a loving mystery as to what they're saying." Blows me away how varied the same language can be, and for some reason I really enjoy knowing about the variations of ones I can't even speak.

There is a huge variety in dialects in Germany alone. For example, traditional Plattdeutsch vernacular of North Germany and Schwabendeutsch can also be nearly impossible for non-locals to understand.

We had a pontoon boat and oars to get there. The platform rocked, a lot. And you're about 40-50ft up so the sway was pretty extreme. It ended with us rocking towards the boat, slapping and rolling as much paint as possible. Then you stand by while you sway about 20 feet away. Rinse and repeat. Day in and day out. I got in trouble before I joined, so that was my life. But, we were a crew, covered in haze gray daily. I stopped trying to get the paint off my skin at one point and just dealt with it. But we were all in our young 20s and just had a loving blast doing it. We snuck alcohol up in large McDonalds cups, and just had the best of times. Lol. Sailors and Safety do not mix. Then I became an IT / Radioman, but I won't ever forget that first year.
