Rolling Stone has published their list of the top 200 Australian albums of all time. It reminds me of how lucky we are to have so many classic Aussie Band's to enjoy! There weren't too many surprises in the top 20 but there's a lot of albums I haven't listened to in years that I'll have to work through in Spotify. I might dance around the living room to a double header of Back in Black and INXS tonight to celebrate (only after a few stubbies of course )

I got a cheap Kmart mountain bike and rode it to work the other day, first time riding a bike in basically forever.

I was late to work and everything hurt for the rest of the day. Gotta start somewhere I guess.

Those Kmart bikes are fine starting places

If you find yourself wanting more keep an eye on your local gumtree and FB marketplace or local bike co-op

I got a 80s era racing bike for 25 bucks , still running just fine, been doing it up into a rad af commutor

My dad's one of the lycra brigade and left his bicycle parked outside a coffee shop for less than a minute and some dog oval office walked off with it.

He made a claim on his insurance and the insurance company asked him to provide photos and get a quote for a new replacement.

Dad paid like $800 for the frame and not much more for the rest. Quote from bike shop for a new replacement for a like model with the same gear?

$18000. That is not a mistype.

Bicycle prices are stupid.

Was in jervis bay for a wedding and they had sun right up until "you may kiss the bride" and then the thunder clapped and the monsoon started. It was kinda sick.

Poor bastards have had it cancelled due to covid twice and the only date they could get within a year of the original date (which was 9/11) was a Tuesday so they said gently caress it.

I ate a lot of cured meats and cheeses and beer.

Melbourne Oz Comic-Con is this weekend, it was originally supposed to be in June 2020 but they've had to change the date 4 times. :v:

If his policy is new for old, yeah they probably will if that really is the closest equivalent in modern tech. They'll probably make him get a few quotes, but I'd say the particular gearing he has is only available as a standard on stupidly high end bikes with carbon everything

Wow, I got one implant from getting a tooth knocked out playing basketball.
Cost me like 8 grand or something all up.

Can't imagine getting 11, good for you though, tooth pain can really lower your quality of life

New kid at work is the son of one of the guys from Front End Loader so there's been the odd discussion about them over the last week, which is welcome since they're one of my favourite bands.

I never knew they won an Aria in 2011, and their acceptance speech was on-point. Lindsay McDougall accepted the award on their behalf.

quote:

If Radio’s The Doctor is reading this from the stage, it means the unthinkable has happened, and Floating Me has been robbed.

The members of Front End Loader can think of no finer way to spend an evening than to be here with you all.
Unfortunately, as an independent band that has been not making money and not selling albums for many years, our budget does not allow this. To our fans who congratulated us on the nomination, we accept in the spirit that you’ve offered it.

You have proven over the years to be a strange bunch of freaks, but you’re our freaks and we’ve grown fond of you. If this award makes you happy, go right ahead and enjoy that. We’re not sure what the award means – we know there’s no cash prize, because that’s the first thing we asked.

If there is any value attached to this award then it belongs to our partners and families, past and present, who have enabled, tolerated, and endured the challenges and bullshit involved in being Australia’s least popular, relatively well-known band.

To the Australian Music Industry… as you were… please carry on… we mean you no harm. We will continue to write Rock Music that we enjoy, play shows when and where we can, and record and release this music as our time, money, and circumstances permit.
None of these activities concern you so please, move along, and let us never speak of this again.”

In brisbane I think roads and transport has been getting the ire of a few council members by forcing through bikeways with little inter-governmental communication

It's a fantastic city scale project to connect up all major Bikeways but the local council and federal and ward members have been opposing its well as a few locals

So far their strongest argument is loss of 70 parking spaces (on a transport corridor) and potential disruptions to a road. The three of them are looking for signatures on petitions , so they are on the back foot at least

Bike ways are rad, every bike you see is a car not on the road
