Anyone else playing online? I've become addicted to Horizon Open despite the jank and being terrible. Won my first race last night in the 2015 WRX STI with tuning from the spreadsheet shared earlier.

Seems like I excel at dirt tracks despite having good road/street cars and tuning. I think it comes down to me sucking at turning.

Its always partially this tbh, but if you notice someone just leaving you in the dust on exit, its more likely that you have too much grip and not enough power for the class. Its something Ive noticed with a lot of tunes, people love putting amazing tires and handling on cars that cant go much faster than their newfound exit speed

My sole online interaction took place earlier today, and as I was pootling along I passed a guy who proceeded to follow me, honked the Windows startup sound at me and tried joining my convoy (I didn't have one). I honked E1M1 Low at him and did some ridiculous zero turning circle donuts in the Deberti Prerunner and proceeded on to the showcase I was driving to, with this guy dutifully drifting around me for a mile and a half.

Then I got a disconnect error.

edit: I need to clarify about those zero turning circle donuts. I mean, it was like the truck was on a rotating showroom base sped up to 11. :laffo:

Yup I do a lot of Horizon Tour/Open. I wish the categories for Tours were more randomized, but there's a decent variety and it's fun to build cars for them. Open removed S2 cross country races which is good but still needs to remove S2 mixed surface, because it's just not fun. I'm not sure I've ever seen D class come up in Open, either.

I have yet to see C class races in open. Which has so much potential for hilarity. I was doing B Street races and someone had a van with a Mystery Machine design.

I've got one of those. There are some great Mystery Machine skins for the Vandura.

I wonder if they exist for the Ford Supervan. That thing is ridiculous, and you can take it up to X class.

The Supervan 3 is the best S1 offroader imo. This latest week's transport vehicle photo task made me sad because the Supervan 3 didn't qualify. Mine's got the DHL logo all over it so it should super-count.

The last racing-specific game I played was NFS: Heat which let you display 8 or so cars in your "garage" (which all your properties link to). Shame that FH doesn't have anything like it.

Unrelated, is there a Discord for organizing? It'd be cool to be able to link up and do co-op events etc

I love mine - it's my favorite for most cross-country and some dirt courses.

Does anyone have a good tune for it? I don't want to change classes, just make it better at what it already does.

Just to elaborate on this a bit because it’s super important for Rivals and other online stuff: putting race slicks on your car makes the p# jump in most cases, but below s1 there’s a good chance you can’t actually push the limits of slicks. It’s much better to try stepping down at least one tire level and get the rest of your desired p# from power or reduced weight

Also dont shy away from stock tires. I found that stock tires with maybe more width are often all you need when keeping cars within the same class, and in some edge cases with off-road chassis or D-class, stock tires can even be a strong choice on dirt.

e: I have a C-Class BMW run in Ruta Norte that gets within spitting distance of the top GRCC time, if you want to see how competitive builds can look wildly different even when both are using stock tires (because with that launch, that Civic definitely isnt using anything else lol)

What’s up with drag tires anyway? I know they’re supposed to grip like hell, but what’s the downside, are they just super soft & heat up extremely fast? So I guess they’re great for getting off the line but are bad on turns and run hot on an actual normal length race?

I started using drag tires for street trials, race to the first corner to bully the unfair AI (and then drive normally and drop down to 5th place because normal tunes can actually outperform in the long run).

For both road and rally in D and C class I only have 1 car not on stock tyres - the Renault 4L in C class, only because I wanted a very light road car with lots of grip for tracks with lots of tight turns. Otherwise I usually just take wider stock tyres, and then spend most of the PI budget on speed, which C and D class doesn't exactly have in spades.

And lol yeah the 1974 Civic I use for C class rivals is also on stock tyres. It has way too much hp for its teensy-weensy tyres to launch properly - 1st to 3rd gear can't do much besides paint skidmarks on the road.

They teased us with Peels for the last week and the only one on the board is 3 weeks away.

all of the stuff in the forzathon shop is common in the game.

The "easy" car in this months playlist says it's exclusive, but is a wheelspin car

BOTH cars next season are common wheelspin cars.

exclusive forzathon shop cars are usually the first to hit 20m because each player can only buy 1 and most people don't bother. hopefully when they come up(if they come up) we can each buy one for ourselves I can gift everybody one to sell later for 20m. It's all junk this week but if you want one add me as a friend GT: Powershift and i'll gift you whichever one you want.

I'm not entirely clear on what to do for the Trailblazer quest anyway. I did three (two of which were new to me) and nothing happened. Do you have to three-star them?

Some of the Trailblazers are fun, but three-starring a few of them seem to revolve around "drive stupidly fast through a forest and pray you don't hit a tree".

Please note that you can also get stuck at the "1S faster for 3 stars" bug. I had that happen about three times before I remembered it was a thing. On the Series X I went to the Home screen, Quit FH5, and just for good measure (I do not think this is necessary but it's quick) I did a restart of the console. When I logged back into Horizon the challenge completed automatically.

Horizon open seems managed and manipulated.

I have a 1500hp S900 hoonigan nova that hooks and books up to 400kph. All it's good for is straight line speed and then when in doubt throttle out in the corners. I did an open race for the weekly challenge, and thromped the pack by almost 15 seconds. I figured i would stick with it and win the series. The next race i couldn't even match an exocet off the start. the whole race felt like i was down on power.

Also, if you try auctioning the new Maserati it gives you a server error. I guess this is how they tried to manage selling unreleased cars but in typical fashion they hosed it up. don't bother trying to snipe them for investments until they can actually be sold

Did you do the treasure chest and if so, how? It seems like it's bugged and impossible to complete unless you have a trailblazer that you've never done (or at the very least one that you haven't 3-starred).

The Super 7 reward this week is the Police Siren horn, perhaps worth mentioning as it's sometimes easy to forget there's a seasonal reward there too. Might be useful for anyone who wants to drive around pulling over other drivers and citing them for Failure to Properly Display Anime Livery.
