I think it generated a reasonable amount of attention for the original series. May have actually been 'successful' from a marketing perspective even though it sucked

Netflix was always going to amp up a lovely movie with three big name Hollywood stars as their mega hit with a billion views before they'd give the same treatment to a half assed adaptation of a cult classic anime series.

bebop is also relatively expensive to make, being a sci-fi series where they sometimes go into space and which has a lot of action scenes. why make season 2 of it when they could probably get similar ratings for less effort from something else?

Not sure how well it’s actually going to work though (for example, from what I’ve seen stretchy limbs have never really looked that good in live action).
