I was getting ready to make this exact post

Johnson isn't flawless but he's very, very good, and he tried to do Actual Interesting poo poo with Star Wars—which was a breath of fresh air after Force Awakens made it very clear we were heading straight for trodden ground with the new trilogy.

Also Knives Out and Brick are incredible

Edit: Like seriously one of the reasons Rise of Skywalker sucked so badly is Abrams and the powers that be looked at the implications and questions raised by Last Jedi and entered panic mode, screaming PULL UP PULL UP until finding and slamming an open palm onto the blinking red Palatine button

All three sequel scripts leaked a good week or more before the movies came out (To the point either GBS or FYAD has “Han Solo Dies” in its title well before Force Awakens opening night), but it was Rise of Skywalker that was really the only one I remember everyone going “…This one has to be a joke… right?” compared to the others.

The movie that made me want to take film classes was The Brothers Bloom. It's rough but it has more charm than anything Abrams could lens flare into existence.

Knives Out rules and the people who dislike it haven't been poor in America.

I respect what he tries to do with it, and that he recognizes that the Prequels have raised questions that must be addressed if the franchise is to move forward. (What's the point of rebellion when fascism is the norm that the Galaxy always yearns to return to? What's even the point of the Jedi, are they even good?) However, Luke enunciating "well, we're stuck in a Star War, we're gonna have to do this forever, I guess I'll just loving die" isn't really an answer.

Are people conflating the Last Jedi with Rise of Skywalker?

Because Last Jedi wasn't great or anything, and had way too much apocalypse porn for my taste, but I thought people generally liked it, whereas I noped out on Rise about 10 minutes into a flight when Palpatine showed up to do some Scooby Doo villain monologuing.

Star Wars, especially the sequel project, was definitely in need of a good self-critique, but The Last Jedi was a C-minus self-critique. It raises all these good questions about Why We Fight, and the cyclical nature of the franchise. and the functions of religion and iconography- and ultimately none of the characters learn anything, and the fact that none of them learn anything is kind of presented as a triumph?

All of that said, it is the best of the sequel trilogy. Its the only one that actually attempts to be about something other than playing with action figures, and it’s certainly not the one the that “ruined” the sequel trilogy, seeing as how the whole thing was stillborn with Force Awakens.

Y’all idk how to deal with my sister. She’s unvaccinated because recently her doctor told her she could probably wait to get the vaccine because she’s recently been diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. I think either A) this guy is full of poo poo or B) she’s making it up because she doesn’t want to get vaccinated. She was “waiting” before the diagnosis and I think that was just her out to make something up and not get vaccinated. The Crohn’s colitis foundation recommends and supports getting the vaccine. Oh and add to that she’s had mild to severe asthma all her life. She also works in a gym and is a hair stylist. I cannot believe she hasn’t gotten covid yet.

She asked if I wanted to hang out with her recently and I made up some excuse to avoid confrontation. She asked me again today, except added that our dad would be in town. My dad has been dealing with cancer on an off for the better part of a decade. He’s DEFINITELY immunocompromised.

So when she said that I flat out told her I didn’t want to be around her because she wasn’t vaccinated and that I wasn’t going to see her until she was, and that I was pissed she was seeing our dad knowing his health problems. She, completely missing the point, asked if I was aware of her health problems. I told her I was but that argument doesn’t hold any weight because she’s making zero effort to protect herself since she can’t get vaccinated. At all. So now she’s pissed and bitching to my mom about it as well so I’m having to hear about it from my mom.

I’m just so loving frustrated because she’s so hard headed she’s just pissed now instead of listening to what I’m saying. The weird thing is the rest of the family is all vaccinated. Her and her boyfriend are the only holdouts. They’re also completely non political so this stubbornness about it is coming from somewhere else…maybe one of her friends. And it PISSES me off that I have to even clarify that part.

"Yes I can hear you, I don't have ear cancer!"

It sounds like it’s not “can’t” get vaccinated, but “won’t”. If you meet her on her terms then she’s just going to continue to avoid it. Confronting her may not be much better, but if the CCF is saying it’s OK for Crohn’s patients to get vaxxed, then you need to tell her outright that you can’t hang out until she gets the shot.

Godspeed though. My partner is an Actual Doctor and my stepmother still won’t get vaccinated despite being given a very thorough rundown of the risks and benefits by her.

I always thought Episode 6 had great setpieces, just... bad execution. I liked how there were 3 converging stories going on at once (Luke vs. Vader & the Emperor, Lando leading the attack against the Death Star and Han & Leia on Endor). I would have preferred the original script idea that had wookies instead of ewoks on Endor - at that point, it definitely felt like George Lucas was more interested in selling toys than a story.

I was like 4 when I first saw Return of the Jedi, so I liked it way more then 4 or 5, and my dad loved all three so I saw them a bunch of times. Eventually grew to like Empire but swamps suck, Yoda's awful, the Falcon space scenes take forever, just a long dull movie to a little kid.

Man I had a lot of star wars toys as a kid, my dad must've been dropping them on me hoping I'd love it. Haha sorry dad, maybe you should watch Akira.
