Yes and I'm not going to let the author tell me what to think of his work. That would be silly. It probably isn't a good book but I'll have my own reasons for determining that

Leonard was going to take the bomb out of the building via the elevator and Sheldon pulled him out and left the bomb. It went off seconds after the doors closed.

So I always thought, "the gently caress was going on in San Francisco in 82?" But really, what is up with that? Now I'm thinking maybe it's referring to the movie? I never saw it, but would that make sense for an adult district of SF in the 80s to be showing that movie or something?

Lolita was a regularly used tag for a while in sex shops and red light districts. It kind of got swapped out for the slightly better sounding Barely Legal when all that stuff started transitioning to home focus.

Imdb says Las Vegas. But seeing the video for the first time as an adult was a bit of a shock. Like was the the direct "Okay guys, here's the premise of the video: you're a bunch of real tough guy bad asses who whack off in porno theaters and then meet up for band practice. It's interracial porn so MTV won't let us show that part so we're gonna have to leave the whacking off subtextual."

Just had an idea for a sitcom. You take a modern-day unibomber. Real Ted Kaczynski. But he's like, real bad at it. Bombs never go off, plan always goes wrong etc. Anyway yada yada, he ends up being roommates with a TikTok influencer.

Wasn't there already a pilot for a sitcom where the group was Al-Qaeda sleeper cell that was activated but really didn't want to do stuff because they liked living in the Western world, or a I thinking some MAD-TV skit?

the closest thing I can think of is American Dreamz, a movie where an aspiring terrorist is instructed to bomb a broadcast of an American Idol-esque show

he ends up not going through with it because he prefers living in the West and gets to the finals of said show

I went see it in theaters, there was a three month span where I was living out of a hotel for work and has a 5 hour span between check out and start of my shift every Monday, it wasn't bad? One of those really dark satires that end with the complete commercialization of the suicide explosion at the end and corruption of the protagonist. feels like there were enough movies in the late 90s early 00s that ended that way to warrant their own genre.

Tommyknockers is kinda longwinded but it's otherwise really good, imho. One of the only books I've ever read that's made me feel queasy, and it scans super well if you've ever lost any relatives to Qanon stuff or Trumpism in general. I've seen people knock the bit with the Coca-Cola machine, but using a corporate brand to gruesomely murder an intruder is extremely on the nose.

In college I went and saw it in the theater with a girl who was really into American Idol. She somehow thought going into it that it was a rom-com or something.

She was…not pleased with the result.

Needful Things comes to mind as one's that's way too bloated but I still liked parts of it. Usually if I don't like a book I'll give up on it pretty early, and mostly it's more for the writing style being unappealing than anything else. I've gotta think about things constantly or I get nutty and books are good for that even if they're not good

Tommyknockers could lose some chapters to be sure, but it is a great book still.

I still don't understand why we needed The Kid at all in King's expanded The Stand. He did nothing of value at all other than some shock gore.

Homer is flat out giving solid advice here. And says a lot about how messed up gender politics was and often still is for girls dealing with advances of boys who won't take no for an answer, not even getting into the issues of a kid with a nonspecific mental disability... or whose father is a cop.

Moaning Lisa early on also makes a big point about Marge realising how sexism and internalised misogyny has impacted her life and happiness when she sees the same things happening to Lisa when she's unable to deal with her unhappiness at genuine mistreatment.

If you are into comics crossovers with santa with weird sexual harassment stuff, (and who isn't?)

Theres one where the Ultimate Warrior rapes Santa, steals his suit,

then chains him up

before taking over the mantle and (I think) delivering toys to all the little warriors in the world.

Edit: For those talking about the sitcom about terrorists that end up liking living the Western lifestyle.

There was an ongoing skit on the cartoon "The Mr Hell Show", where some hardcore islamist was trying to plan some bombing or other, and would get into the stereotypical "death to the imperialist pigdogs" etc. rhetoric but his co-conspirators were just a couple of asian lads from Birmingham with thick Brummie accents, and their plots were often interrupted by the boys mum bringing in some tea for her sons and their friend.

Very much in the 4 lions mould,
