Because once again...I have the same SS! Thank you so much Mustache Ride. When I got the box this morning I said dang another Texas goon SS?

On to the good stuff! Seeds everywhere! I fuckin love Koozies! Lol that two of them are from Colorado. Love the beers, the BBQ sauce, THE GAUGES! Stickers! loofah seeds! A plate!

Wtf is this AA thing?

You must have seen my post about the Cobra, this thing is adorable.

This ad is absolutely incredible. It will find an esteemed place to hang. Truly either this or the cobra would have been enough. Thanks for all the spoils!

Yay it got there! Stupid snow.

My mom started growing loofas, so I got you a couple with seeds. They like water and probably need to be planted in May so they can get the best temps before the Colorado frost comes in. If you plant them with a frame, they should vine up and you can get some nice gourds which you dry out and make loofas. The AA Wireless thing is something I bought that gives you wireless android auto if you only have a hardwired android auto thing. I had wired Android Auto but then bought a car that has wireless, so I don't need it anymore. Not sure if you have Android Auto or not, but feel free to pass it on to someone if you don't. Gauges are from the Scout, and are in pretty bad shape.

Glad the KCTools order finally came in, I was stalking you in the Tools thread. Tried to order you a set of precision screwdriver set, but everything is backordered.

I’m back, and for that I am sorry

I’ve had a lot of Land Cruiser packages lately so Erica had a funny look on her face when she walked in with a box and asked “What did you order from Las Vegas?”

Nothing, which means my AISS package arrived!

And my Secret Santa is…

Mr. Wiggles! Thank you! And yes, we are getting old. Oooold.

The full haul:

That shirt is going into rotation very soon. I need to do laundry anyway so maybe tomorrow!

When I said ‘junk me’, this fire extinguisher is not what I was expecting. Look at that data plate!

1968 - I bet that thing has the good chemicals. I’m going to find a place to put this on display.

There are at least three things wrong with the definition printed on this mug:

Also now I need to turbocharge something. Hmm…3FEs could use more power at altitude…

Just the other day I gave up on my corded soldering iron and broke out the torch to do a resistor, so this is going to come in REALLY handy:

I also got a set of ratcheting crimpers recently and immediately regretted it because the project I was working on was inside a door. These will come in very handy for those situations (I need to do some wires in the back hatch next):

And, finally, did you know you were touching a nerve with these?

Back in the day I had a set of zebra stripe fuzzy dice in GIR - here’s a picture circa 2002:

They got nasty and I had to throw them out a long time ago. It’s nice to have a replacement set, thank you!

Nuthin' but towels

Nice stickers and a great vintage Haynes manual. I don't think it will ever be used but it'll make a nice addition to the bookshelf

The finest JDM treats

Mmmm homemade cookies

Extra sockets to lose! I was actually going to get these but I missed the sale, thanks so much!

ONLY ONE CHARITY SHALL PREVAIL!

Resource Assistance for Youth, Inc. is a local winnipeg charity that has operated for over 25 years. Their mission is to "provide youth with what they need, on their terms, to better their lives." They are essentially a 'one stop shop' operation and have been able to provide a variety of services. They have a key focus on the social determinants of health (from the WHO) and from as best as I can tell they appear to be genuinely good people with a research based approach to how they run their operation.

I could try to condense this down even further, but this infographic from a 2015 report by another youth oriented charity that has since been closed, shows that things aren't always sweet and rosy up north.

Further to that, a 2021 report released by Ray shows the situation has gotten even more dire since the pandemic started, with many challenges due to social distancing and restrictions. It goes beyond the immediate though of reduced capacities at shelters due to the space required to adhere to social distancing guidelines.

"RaY Street Outreach Coordinator, March 3, 2021 Click here to read the report if you're so inclined posted:

“Well, from word of mouth, from [participants] telling me, a
huge thing is they don’t like the rules at the shelters, they don’t
feel safe at the shelters. If they do get a single room, they’re
not allowed to have anyone in them, and they’re using alone.
So that’s a big thing. It’s safety and family, in these encampments,
and they’re all using together. Which, I can totally see
why they’re doing that. I mean, it just makes sense. They’re
also not even allowed to use [substances] in their rooms at the
shelters; like, telling a steady drug addict that they can’t use,
or be under the influence…. You have to be there by a certain
time. Yeah, it just doesn’t make sense for that lifestyle.”

So with that, it's the unfortunate reality that the problem is worse and resources are stretched thinner than ever due to the ongoing pandemic. RaY is about as down to earth and reasonable in their approach to helping those in need and I believe they would be a worthy charity to support.

I apologize for the slow posting of details, nitsuga! The pandemic fatigue really has me worn out this year and I am not my usual energetic AI:SS self. Your gift was fantastic!

A carefully packed box with some delicious goldfish and whoppers (these had to be hidden away before I could bring out the rest of the goodies in front of my kids, because I manage their junk food intake much more closely than my own).

A sweet pair of Tekton needle-nose pliers! These are a huge upgrade over the rusty old cheap crap ones I have now, and will give me years of use. And a bunch of other lovely, well-wrapped, mysterious packages...

Awesome, awesome stuff. The kids claimed the Tech Decks, and they've both been playing with them nonstop for days. My son has a Santa Cruz logo hoodie that matches his board, and my daughter decided that the screaming hand deck was perfect for one of her dolls. The Miata is sitting on my desk while I type this, and I'm looking forward to building the retro radio over the holiday break, when my mom will be in town to manage whichever kid gets disinterested and drops out and I can keep going with the one who's into it. They've both built some basic circuits before and I could see either one getting into this project. I somehow missed getting the stickers in these photos, but those are cool as well, and they'll likely go onto the tool chest.

Thank you, nitsuga! My own Santee will almost certainly see their gift after Christmas, given shipping issues, since it's an international package, but all gifts have been acquired and it will be hitting the post office by Thursday, depending on how soon I can get away from work to ship it.

Cudl are an explicitly leftist mutual aid org entirely run by volunteers. They do such work as:
run a street kitchen
Provide clothes and sleeping bags to the homeless
Help people with yard work so that they don't get evicted or lose their bond
Provide masks etc to rallys to keep them covid safe.
The next goal is to provide a moving van and extra hands to people who need to move on short notice for family violence reasons.

Shipping was actually incredibly reasonable. About the same price as that bag of coffee actually.
Backstory on how it got bent: It's not the barrel that's bent, it'a actually the center section. So my best guess is factory casting defect. So you could think of it like an improperly minted coin?
I bought a full cut of a 1989 RX-7 Turbo II drift missle that went offroading one to many times at Ebisu back in 2005. Half for the driveline (transmission, subframes, brakes) and half for the wheels that were on it. All through my local rotary wizard who at the time was running a JDM import business. Those wheels were my first vehicular parts purchase (after my $1 salvage RX-7).

Switching gears, something showed up yesterday:

Think I ate a third of the bag at my desk, here, before she cottoned on. I mean, I grew up in Pennsylvania, and we have a veritable plethora of pretzel choices here – but nothing like Dot’s. drat

On the other hand, Dorian – and the other five cats – were, uh, wildly enthusiastic about both the Greenies and the Crustacean selections. The blur is from me physically holding him by the tail to keep hin from sticking is head in the bag. Again.

I had to lock the bags in a closet to avoid absolute pillage, and remained very popular for the rest of the day. .

These were from me! The shop gave no option to include a note with the shipment unfortunately, though unsurprising. Maybe with multiple pliers you can use them to unbend each other. I've also got a random selection of stickers, some that I just had lying around, to send you, but the USPS is turbofucked in my town and we just had a major storm so I haven't been able to get a stamp to do so.

but filled with carefully-wrapped gifts!

drat, I haven’t had PG Tips in an age. Gotta have it with milk.

And just…fabulous wrapping paper.

A 10mm socket (coin of the realm!) and three antique screwdrivers. My father had some of these in what passed for his toolbox. I called them ‘cow tools’ within five minutes of the publication of the Gary Larson cartoon.

These are solid and fit, however, maybe only needing the blades squared off.

I am intrigued by the mystery of the MOC BLOCKS.

This should be fun!

The Christmas earrings were, in actuality, cat toys.

https://i.imgur.com/4VF4Lxf.mp4

These are now long gone!

As are the Jaffa cakes – real. Honest-to-god Jaffa originals - my wife took one look at the box and has scarpered with them. I’ll try to get a photo later…

This is an outstanding souvenir from Duxford – I hope to get there someday for the big show. I’m trying to figure out where to put it. I’m tempted to mount it to a piece of glass and make a magnet out of it (or scan it) the Pontiac would be a great place for it – possibly the passenger-side windshield? Or a quarter window.

A mindful missive for the season, thank you! (although my wife made a face at the BOILING WATER for steeping tea)

Tasteful as well were the dicks! Going on the tree presently!

So funny timing/story here. I asked because this morning after seeing your message, I noticed on USPS informed delivery that a package was scheduled to be delivered today from DHL Global mail. I checked again an hour or so later to see an exception and the message "Your item was returned to the sender on December 18, 2021 at 7:57 am in TRUCKEE, CA 96161 because the addressee was not known at the delivery address noted on the package."

I called the local post office and learned some things! The package was not delivered by the carrier this morning because it didn't have my name on it (but did have Steve French), and apparently the mail carrier knew nobody by that name lived here; partially due to fraud issues (people buying things with stolen credit cards shipped to rando's addresses and then snagging the packages right after delivery), partially due to how rural mail carriers are paid. I will now not send things to people via USPS without their real name!

So anyway they swung back and delivered it after I talked to them.

Success! The kids will love being teased with the chocolates for two hours while they are repeatedly told to finish eating their dinner first. And I appreciate having another Firebird resource. Thanks much!
