Thankfully I got one the first time he refreshed his stock. I also super lucked out, got a random quest from an Engineer to deliver 16 tons of fish, in return I get the specialist that produces electricity and increases production by 20%. Talk about minimal effort for maximum rewards!

Anno 1404 remake available for free through Ubisoft's service. 1404 still holds up pretty drat well, but is missing a number of QoL features from 1800 that I don't think are in the remake. Has anyone played the remake and confirmed it runs fine without having a super up-to-date PC like 1800?

I like 1404 but I like the ability to actually know how much my population consumes at a glance to go back to it

I mean I'll take improvements to the New World, it really has felt forgotten. I'd also just like an announcement for the next Anno as well.

I haven't played any other games in the series and would love to explore a new time period. I know I could go back to an older game, but most of them don't have co-op, and I'm sure I'd miss a bunch of quality of life improvements that are new to 1800.

I still don't see anything in 1800 that makes me want to buy it, so I'm firmly in holding out for the next game in the series. In the meantime, picked up 1404 from the free giveaway. May give that a try.

Yeah, I got vibes that S3 was pushing things/wrapping things up, so colour me surprised that they're doing an S4. I'm honestly a bit more interested in a new Anno at this point. 1800 and all it's DLC is great, but kind of overwhelming at times.

If you have them you may want to also invest/look into other DLCs: mainly The Passage and Land of Lions. Edit: Oh, also enjoy Influence no longer being A Thing to worry about. cool! My strategy right now is to attend to the engineers' luxuries and do some optimization, like doing giedi prime island, building steamboats, etc. I figure I also should set up some routes to sell champagne and other investor goods edit: just met mr garrick and he's my strongest and coolest and handsomest friend dead gay comedy forums fucked around with this message at 02:21 on Dec 9, 2021 |

From here on out, every bit of underbuilt production or under-hulled long-haul cargo route becomes compounding rickitiness in the edifice which is your corporation, while every place where you focus in and shore up capacities will reward you with ever-higher numbers.

yeah, it's a very different game on that point, and I think I like it much better there? On another (and perhaps final) update of the playthrough, I built a bunch of battlecruisers and tried to clown over von malching, had some success but the military experience of anno is, I now can conclusively say, extremely lame. With the game being poorly optimized as it is, playing with other AIs slow it down too drat much. I rather have just the pirates to offer friction there. I haven't even touched the Arctic or Enbesa yet

Pirates are nice to have. They give you a reason to build big boats and produce enough conflict to make you think about it while also giving you the ability to stop it when needed. Also dropping 3 battle cruisers in a map and clearing the sea lanes is super satisfying. I like you Jean but try to raise your prices again and watch what happens

I have always passed on anno due to being scared by the flashy friendly faces of all the people in the game which are usually are reserved to very shallow games. But after reading a bunch of this tread I had clearly the wrong impression so I gave it a try. I am finding the whole experience quite unstable. Basically my game crashes to desktop every 15m. If I alt-tab out for a while it last a little longer. Also my connection to ubisoft connect keeps dropping. Is this something known or I got issues? (I have got an average desktop pc, nothing crazy but enough for specs)

Anno very ram greedy, you might want to check if it maxes out in the task manager. Anyway new patch is out, no time for me to check it tonight alss...

The game has had on again off again stability issues in dx12 on some configurations. I used to have it, then one of the patches fixed it.

Tried both dx11 and 12. Tried with a clean boot from windows. The RAM usage when it crashes is around 89% - I have got 16GB. No crash logs anywhere. Always after 15 mins. No idea what it could be causing it

So tried the new scenario before work. My experience: "Oh this is easy so far. Just gotta clear some ruins...Oh these animal farms actually hurt...and I have to build SO MANY and...oh...there goes my water quality". The big Pyhporian ruins (at least the ones that affect water) that just require Jornaleroes to clear are -8 water quality. The llama and beef farms are -10 each, and you need 1 each llama and beef for every work clothes factory, which I needed 2 of. So suddenly -40 water quality just tanked my island's ecology. I can see why this is a "it's gonna take multiple tries, each one progressing on top of the other" challenge. Also tried out the new cosmetic houses in the main game. Very pretty! Sadly the tool to edit a large swath of houses seems to kind of scramble their theme instead if used a few times.

Update: the memory usage slowly goes up constantly, even when the game is paused and in the background - probably a memory leak. It crashes when it fills the RAM + pager file (I had a 20GB pager file completely maxed out). Since it's not a widely reported problem I am going to call it as a problem of the architecture (maybe my GPU + CPU combo or whatever). Sadly I don't have a plan to upgrade components soon, so I'll have to wait for Victoria 3 coming along to scratch that industrialize everything itch

RattiRatto posted:Update: the memory usage slowly goes up constantly, even when the game is paused and in the background - probably a memory leak. I mentioned this on the last few pages. The game has probably the largest memory leak and usage on top of that of any game in the past few years. In addition, the way it uses resources is appallingly inefficient and sometimes outright causes even more lag on it's own. It's just not a very well designed game when it comes to the back end. There are fixes to get around this. But they're by no means useful if it's so bad on your end that it's crashing. Edit: 16GB may not be enough depending on the amount of stuff going on in game and the length played. The reddit is littered with people pissed off over the fact that it's not enough. The crash is most likely because your allotted amount of virtual memory is too small. I had the same issue. To give an idea of how loving absurd this game is, when I had dynamic allocation on and loaded up my release day late game I ended up with a 80-100gb paging file size. Testing this by artificially lowering it back down to something sane causes the game to crash like how you had it crash when it maxes out the used memory since they didn't put any kind of sanity check in on that front. Obviously, I say it's a paging file issue because no one in their right mind is going to be packing that much RAM outside of maybe custom built PC's. But if you can get that then congrats, you can run the most inefficiently designed game I have ever seen. The game is hosed is what i'm trying to say. I am not in even my late game - I just reached artisans in my main island with around 3k total population. Probably 5h in? Now the limit of RAM is my educated guess, but by no means I have any crash report or logs I can look into drat if RAM and CPU prices would not be crazy through the roof right now I might have though about upgrading

Update - the only way which is possible to play this game is through the use of GeForce Now. Actually it is not bad at all, almost no noticeable lag at all. First time using a cloud game service

I never had toomany problems with the games performance, though I could use an upgrade to 32gb of ram. Runs fine for me with about 60k investors. Ryzen 3600x, gtx1660s, 16 gb ram.
