To be available used they have to be available new, and for that they have to actually be produced, so lol.

Yeah, that's my point. People's phones are perfectly capable of taking over infotainment duties on basic cars. That being said, all cars in the US need to have *some* kind of built-in screen for a federally-mandated backup camera.

They kind of make sense for places where cell coverage is spotty as gently caress. There are some that will let you load specific off road trails and things onto them too if you want to go gently caress around in the wilderness or something.

Anyone serious about over landing have their own gps and radios though so it’s mostly the casual types that this would apply to I guess.

I had to do it for a trip my wife was takes a few months ago and got a glimpse at my future older self barely able to make tech work for me. But again, the UI and user experience had a lot of room for improvement.

My last duty station I was living in downtown Norfolk, which has a kind of hilariously hosed up take on walkability. You could walk to a million different bars or restaurants, and I was two blocks from the mall with a million clothing or shoe shops... but the nearest grocery store was over a mile away, and if you needed a hardware store or general-purpose store like Target or Walmart, that was about 10 miles down the highway.

Ironically now that I've moved back to the automotive hellscape of California I'm right across the street from a shopping center with a Target and a Whole Foods, so while in theory I might have walkability to fewer stores than before, I have a lot more actual variety in terms of the stuff I'm able to get. Being able to walk to a Target to grab one random thing that you need is really handy.

There's still the fact that if you place an order for pick up from some of the local restaurants' web sites, you are literally required to enter the make and model of your car for curbside pickup, because the idea that someone might walk over to get their order doesn't even occur to them.

And also trying to bike anywhere is not just courting Death, but buying a ring and getting ready to drop down on one knee in front of her.

Lmao I live in Ghent right now it’s loving weird how weirdly walkable yet unwalkable this town is depending on what you’re trying to do. There’s literally one single solitary supermarket foot accessible in the entire area downtown/hospital area, and it’s still too far away to carry a significant amount of groceries. It’s also Harris Teater so it’s stupidly expensive for what you’re getting compared to Food Lion, Aldi’s or Wegmans.

Yeah that’s true I went to a meeting in 2016, probably one of the most attended they ever had, literally a week after the election and the chair spent the entire meeting rehashing some beef she had from last week with the progressive and black wings and then singled out and yelled at people for leaving when people started walking out in disgust.

I’m talking more about municipal politics personally. California NIMBY poo poo drives me up a wall and I could actually do something about it.

Reading into the issue, from what I can tell all this really means is that the DoJ doesn't want to give a flat dollar amount to every family in a single 2+ billion dollar settlement and has likely decided to settle each of the cases individually. The DoJ's statement "While the parties have been unable to reach a global settlement agreement at this time, we remain committed to engaging with the plaintiffs and to bringing justice to the victims of this abhorrent policy" certainly doesn't sound like they're planning to fight each case to the death in court.

Yeah, except when the Democrats try to explain this as being the case, everyone's going to tune out and go all :downs:.

Then, when it counts, someone's going to distill it all down to "Biden did nothing to help the kids in cages" and that's the only thing people will remember.
