I liked the way the cybertruck looked, but I don't think I could justify the purchase for a number of reasons. Maybe I'll find one used in a couple years and after there are some reports about how it operates in the cold

There are some that will let you load specific off road trails and things onto them too if you want to go gently caress around in the wilderness or something. Anyone serious about over landing have their own gps and radios though so it’s mostly the casual types that this would apply to I guess.

I had to do it for a trip my wife was takes a few months ago and got a glimpse at my future older self barely able to make tech work for me. But again, the UI and user experience had a lot of room for improvement.

Trading off higher per-square-foot prices and cost of living in exchange for having all my weekly/monthly errand destinations being within a 15-minute walk was a game changer for me. Especially if there's the option to ditch a car, it more than makes up for it.

You could walk to a million different bars or restaurants, and I was two blocks from the mall with a million clothing or shoe shops... but the nearest grocery store was over a mile away, and if you needed a hardware store or general-purpose store like Target or Walmart, that was about 10 miles down the highway. Ironically now that I've moved back to the automotive hellscape of California I'm right across the street from a shopping center with a Target and a Whole Foods, so while in theory I might have walkability to fewer stores than before, I have a lot more actual variety in terms of the stuff I'm able to get. Being able to walk to a Target to grab one random thing that you need is really handy. There's still the fact that if you place an order for pick up from some of the local restaurants' web sites, you are literally required to enter the make and model of your car for curbside pickup, because the idea that someone might walk over to get their order doesn't even occur to them. And also trying to bike anywhere is not just courting Death, but buying a ring and getting ready to drop down on one knee in front of her.

Reading into the issue, from what I can tell all this really means is that the DoJ doesn't want to give a flat dollar amount to every family in a single 2+ billion dollar settlement and has likely decided to settle each of the cases individually. The DoJ's statement "While the parties have been unable to reach a global settlement agreement at this time, we remain committed to engaging with the plaintiffs and to bringing justice to the victims of this abhorrent policy" certainly doesn't sound like they're planning to fight each case to the death in court. anyway it would be nice if people in this thread stopped shouting "the democrats are worthless and doomed in 2024" in response to singular tweets that don't even have an article attached because it's really obnoxious and happening like five times a week like if you're gonna do that post an article excerpt at least
