This car has AWD, ample cargo space, heated seats, and low profile enough that you could actually see pedestrians. Extremely good poo poo.

I'm probably going to end up with an Outback eventually, not because I want one (though they are good cars, I certainly wouldn't complain), but because everyone in my line of work eventually gets a Subaru. They may as well hand out brochures at employee orientation.

The thing I dislike the most about my Subaru is the goddamned CVT. Between ~25-30mph I can get this annoying "rubber banding" effect. It's easy enough to mitigate by letting off or pushing down on the throttle, but it always happens when I least want it to, like when crawling along at 25-30mph on an interstate slowdown.

If only the Audi Allroad didn't MSRP for like $67k... :argh:

Last stick shift Outback in the US rolled out of Indiana in 2014, so if you're looking for that specifically, that's your cutoff. Same for Forester. About 3k/year made '10-14 so get ready for the insurance to be like "well.... your rate is higher because it will be harder to replace if it's totalled." Dicks.

You can still get a stick in an Impreza wagon and the the crosstrek. gently caress a CVT.

I had a 2012 STI and it was a hateful piece of poo poo that left me on the side of the road a dozen times even though I maintained it on schedule and didn't abuse it. I will never own another Subaru after that.

The EJ255 is a fickle beast. It's officially dead in production now. They were much better about head gaskets than any other EJ, though.

There are cursed years too, for all models. My '13 Outback is cursed. Though the curse largely extends to the CVTs, besides randomly double priced parts like the flywheel.

The power plant was just about the only thing that didn't break, I had no problems with the engine.

Unplug the battery for a half hour then do a service drive; this feels like it resolves 99% weirdness in my wife's Impreza.

I'm also coming up on 60k miles and I'm thinking of replacing (but not flushing, which can sometimes do more harm than good) the CVT fluid ahead of schedule.

I missed this before, but if anyone wants to do more thorough research into this google "18k Equivalent Single Axle Loads."

While not directly correlated to taxes, they are factored into all pavement and structure designs and tolling fees.

Gotta be more than that. My '09 Impreza hatch is 53 inches. (I had to measure it because I was making an Ikea run and needed to know what my max was)

Also Google says 66" inches, so I retract my previous argument.

I did a little looking into Omicron this morning and found a few things.

There's this from the Imperial Colleges:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cnbc.com/amp/2021/12/17/no-evidence-that-covid-omicron-variant-less-severe-than-delta-uk-study.html

quote:

'No evidence’ Omicron less severe than Delta, say UK researchers

I looked at the numbers, and the earliest report I could find of Omicron in the UK was 26 November. They reported 10000 cases yesterday, which by my math means doubling on a period of less than two days.

Be safe, everyone.

It would not shock me in the slightest if Omicron was downplayed just to get people traveling and shopping before the end of Q4 and once that's no longer required the narrative is going to shift to "whoopsie!" while they count their profits.

My first car was a 1991 Volvo 740. I hated how it drove in the snow (and Volvo guys are always quick to tell me what I was doing wrong as a brand new driver ), but I loved how it held a line on the highway. The engine bay was enormous - always wondered just how large of a powerplant you could get under that hood if you wanted to get really stupid.

Given the stink kicked up by SA over the immediate travel bans, I don't think that was the case. Even for covid, though, this is insanely fast.

Every gas station between Oxford Mississippi and Ozark County Missouri had these on the pumps. Deep MAGA country has played the joke out.

It was semi funny for 5 minutes when it was new to Twitter 6 months ago, I guess. It’s as dumb as let’s go Brandon now.
