AITA for expecting my daughter to attend college?

quote:

I’ll try to keep this short. My daughter still lives with the family at 21, pays her rent, food, keeps her space clean etc. basically a good tenant if you get me.

She was planning to move out last year, but that fell through due to COVID. We are letting her living with us while this whole pandemic is a thing. The problem is I proposed that she attend (online obviously) college if she wants to stay here. I’ve been telling her since she turned 18, and now that her stay is extending with us I feel I need to put my foot down.

She doesn’t want to. I’m going to blunt here, she makes more than her mother and I combined just drawing furry porn. I’m not here to judge, good for her doing something with her talent. The issue is that that’s all she wants to do. She thinks she “doesn’t need” to attend college just because she has this side gig going on. If she doesn’t attend college, what is she gonna do in 5 years? I doubt these “furry” people who are paying her will still exist by then. The worst of it? she will not have any work experience, she will have to explain why she has had no jobs and no schooling outside of high school.

This is so frustrating to me. At some point, she is going to have to get an actual job and the more time goes in the harder it’s going to get. She’s already 21 and never been to college, while here high school peers are graduating. She just won’t budge. And it’s gotten to a point where instead of doing something useful for her future, she wants to move out anyway (during a pandemic might I add) because her mother and I are “so controlling”. We are not. We just care for her and want her to have a good future. But if she moved out I’m afraid that’s not going to happen, she will just continue to be irresponsible. AITA?

AITA For Not Letting Someone Make My Kids Feel Worthless?

quote:

I(30f) had a divorce about a year ago. I have 4 kids with him, 16/13 year old daughters, and 2 twin boys(8). After my husband and I divorced, he suddenly disappeared. I did not have a job and urgently needed a place to stay. My sister had a friend (24, Let's call them Ena) who owned a house. Ena agreed to let me stay there with my children, they said I wouldn't need to pay for anything until I got a job. So, after a week we moved into Ena's house. I realised that they had a large house. I asked why they had bought such a big house (6 bed,4 bath, etc.) And if they plan on starting a family soon. They explained that they didn't want to have kids, and were going to use one bedroom as an office, another for a home-library, and the others excluding theirs, would be guest-rooms. Of course I was confused, because they're buying family homes, which people with actual families would need. They helped us get comfortable, made dinner for us, they treated the children with respect, they baked desserts for the children, etc.

It later turned out that the divorce was quite hard on the kids, so Ena agreed to pay for the kids therapy. Ena also paid for their clothes, and other needs. Shortly after I got a job, (About 4 months) My son got bored and asked if I could buy him something to play games on, because he heard about it at school. I'd have to cut expenses of my own to buy it, so I asked Ena but they said that money was tight with everything else they were paying. Ena was seeing a psychologist and psychiatrist to get medication for the 'mental illnesses' they have, meaning they had money to spare, so I told Ena that they were going to let my son be embarrassed since everybody else had the game. I remembered that Ena had a PC, and asked them to at least let my son use that, they said no. They explained that the PC was expensive, and that they couldn't let my son break it. Ena and I had a huge disagreement, because I felt like they were making my kids think they're not worth anything. Ena came to a compromise where I would pay a small amount of money for rent. I scolded Ena telling them that this was the first time I've been able to treat myself in a while.

1 month later, my oldest daughter came out as 'bisexual', she's been bonding with Ena for so long that I know Ena filled her head with this nonsense. And I'm well aware that Ena is 'Pansexual'. So I told them to stop filling my daughter's head with crap. Ena said that they didn't even talk to my daughter about the lgbt+ community, and I then threatened to take my daughter's phone. She said she needed it for school, but I told her that I didn't care, and she had to hand it over. Ena said that my daughter did need it for school, and that I couldn't take the phone, since Ena pays for it.

Ena told me I'm acting like an entitled bitch, and that they could kick me out whenever they feel like it, but I'm just looking out for myself and my kids.

AITA for causing my aunt to divorce her husband?

quote:

My (19 F) aunt (43 F) and I were talking casually about odd and end house chores. I said something about my boyfriend (26 M) doing the dishes and vacuuming that night. My aunt asked me why I was forcing him to do my work. I said that I wasn’t, and that we split household chores depending on who is feeling like doing what that day. She said that I’m treating him more like a roommate than a partner and that I’m supposed to clean, cook, ect. For him. I said that I didn’t feel like that’s a healthy dynamic and that we are both more than happy with doing our share of the work, since we both work a lot (about 50-60 hours a week). She mentioned that her husband wouldn’t do anything for himself and that she felt it was unfair that she had to do everything. I told her that she should hold him accountable and that it’s the bare minimum he could do. Well… about a month later she filed for divorce, and her husband called me to let me know. He said that I caused her to start thinking like “a snowflake” and that if I don’t believe in traditional relationships I should keep it to myself. I asked what he was talking about. Apparently what I said made her reconsider the relationship and she decided she wanted to be with someone who wasn’t such a man child. My mom, grandma, and other aunts all think that I’m an rear end in a top hat for breaking up a “wonderful” marriage. I don’t think I am because if that’s all it took for her to leave him then obviously there was pre-existing problems. So Reddit, am I the rear end in a top hat?

Edit: I feel like I should mention that there are no children, unfortunately my aunt has severe issues with fertility and has been pregnant 3 times with this man but lost them. He was not supportive during that time.

Get this nonsense outta here. 6 bed, 4 bath but money is tight? They bought the house for the space but were quick to offer it all up to a friend's sister with a pack at her heels? Also the mom was 14 when she had her first kid.

This is probably also a post that doesn't belong in here.

How to handle Christmas gifts as a new couple - Me 32M, Her 33F

quote:

I haven't been in many of long term relationships and this is by far the most serious one I've been in. We have been dating for about 3 months now. Both of us make decent money and no debt.

I'm trying to figure out what is appropriate for Christmas gifts. I know of something she wants that is expensive ($400+). I have a bunch of other things that total to about $150 or so. Would it be outrageous to buy her a fancy thing? I can afford it... but I don't want to create an awkward situation where she feels bad about buying me something reasonable and I go over the top.

The obvious solution here is to just ask her about budgets but that feels really crass. My other idea is to buy the fancy thing, keep it in the car or hidden somewhere and wait until we exchange gifts to judge whether I am out of line. But that feels like cheating.

I'm definitely over thinking this but I want to get it right.

Thanks.
tl;dr: Help me with an appropriate dollar value for Christmas gifts as a new couple (~3 months).

AITA for telling a guy that a mobile game was more important than him?

quote:

Preface to say that I don’t think I’m the ah, but my friend says I am one and should come here to, quote, “see how wrong I was.”

So I had been seeing this guy for about a month and a half, everything was great, he seemed nice, etc etc. Then, one morning after I’d stayed over at his place, he saw me playing a mobile game. He started lecturing me on how mobile games are a waste of money, they’re time sucks for idiots. I then replied that I don’t even sink any money into this game, I just enjoy playing it until I’m out of lives and then I move on to a (hopefully) more productive activity.

He doubled down and insisted that me playing a mobile game was a red flag and ”he couldn’t see himself dating someone who plays those games long term.”

I shrugged and said, ”Sorry you feel that way” then started packing my stuff to leave.

He got huffy and said, “Is a mobile game really more important than me?”

So I said, “Uh, yes? Especially considering that I’ve known this game longer than I’ve known you.”

I then left and never contacted him again because I don’t go in for guys who poo poo on things I like.

Fast forward to today, a few months later: I was telling my friend this story, and she said I was an ah for just leaving and saying that my game was more important than him. I strongly disagree.

So, AITA?

AITA for telling my sister if I find her kids playing my piano again I'll ask her to leave?

quote:

I(32f) have played the piano since I was 7. My teacher and I were really close and when she passed away she left me her piano. It's a beautiful grand piano, and it really means a lot to me. I keep it in my spare room, and I'm the only one that plays it.

My sister(34f) has 2 young children, 5 and 6. They are nice kids, but they have a lot of energy and sometimes don't put it to the best use.

She and her family are spending Christmas with me and my husband. It's a lot of people but we make do. I made it clear that I don't want anyone playing my piano. I know a few other people at the house play the piano and I have an upright that they can play.

Today, I found my niece and nephew playing my piano with their feet. This freaked me out. I asked them to please not do that and I explained to them that they can play the other piano with their hands if they would like to. They went to do that instead.

I told my sister and I asked her to please tell her children not to play my piano. She said she had told them but had no way to stop them and that I should have put it in a room with a door if I didn't want people touching it.

The room is out of the way and at the end of the house, so there's no reason people would be over there.

I told my sister that if I find her children playing the piano again I'm going to ask her to leave. She said I'm jumping to an extreme and it's just a piano.

Honestly her bailing on him without a second thought is the best thing in the world for him. On the snitch coworker, I saw boots do that in the military a lot. At least in the Navy it was encouraged in boot camp and a lot of the young kids really fell for it. I quickly learned to never ever add people I wasn’t extremely close with on social media. I think I’ve added less than 10 people on all platforms from my entire contract.

I think some of it’s an extension of the “zero tolerance and cops in schools” culture in public schools just extended and amplified in the military.

The funny thing is that snitching usually lead to everyone involved getting carpet bombed including the snitch for not snitching early enough or something and they almost never actually got let off easy for it.

Around the time I was getting out my command tried to bring me up on charges because I was friends with someone who was secretly married to an officer because they wanted someone more reliable than the original snitch to testify (The couple were my roommates but the Navy didn’t know that).

Much like real life everything worked out as well as it could have because you never talk to cops, especially fake manager/military cops playing detective. The couple both got out with general discharges but didn’t have to pay back student loans covered by the military or face long term consequences besides not having a GI bill and me and the rest of the friend group all kept our mouths shut and got out when our time was up with full benifits.
