I think having level boosting poo poo in the mog station makes a level squish less likely than it might otherwise be, but I guess they were already selling that stuff before the mountain became quite so high a climb, so making it shorter again might not deter sales all that much. I'll still be surprised if we get one in 7.0 though.

I don't think there's really any reason for a level squish. The stat squish was just fine for their purposes I think.

Oxyclean posted:

But I also have no idea how they pull that off, cause it's not like they can make 6.x or the start of 7.0 mechanically new player friendly without making it really boring for veterans. Also, while they might not rely on old story hooks, it's still hard to imagine how they could create a story that doesn't lean in 2.0-6.0 at all, or at least in a way that a fresh player doesn't feel lost?

If they do let new players jump to the start of 6.x or 7.0, they could swap out the early Limsa/Ul'dah/Gridania start with some sort of new (shorter) prologue that gives them a crash course on the various mechanics and story elements they need to be aware of.

Do you all think Rathalos is soloable by a 90 RDM or SMN? That mail looks like a decent universal glamour.

Edit: To add, what about other level 70 trials? Think we'll need some higher iLvl gear first to solo extremes?

Dunno about the launch sb extremes but tsyukiomi is definitely not soloable by dps right now. Maybe tank but it'd be slow.

I was just thinking that a level squish would make the weird/often boring and disjointed leveling experiences on most classes easier to solve as right now I’m not sure how you do that without also making 70-90 less rewarding in terms of kit growth

Warrior as well, but I agree that the section where you get his by phys vuln and magic vuln attacks would be really rough on someone who can't self-heal easily.

Spoilering just in case, but in the cutscene where you are waiting to get your endwalker artifact armor the camera keeps panning over to a roe lady standing over a kneeling knight in distinctive armor. Was that a reference to something? Here's a bad screenshot I grabbed. I kept expecting it to change each time it panned back.

Rath was soloable by a tank at end of ShB iirc, but I don't think any of the other Extremes were. Rath EX is only four players if you can wrangle three other people to farm it though.

Those two just happened to be placed there. Out of the cutscene if you go over to them there's some dialogue where the dude can't stand up cause the armor is so heavy

but kerachole sucks badly as a low-level sage, before you get the enhanced kerachole trait at level 78 (just like Sacred Soil does since it's basically the same skill)
it's very rare that the tank is going to take enough damage at once for that 10% reduction to outweigh just throwing an extra druochole/lustrate out with the same resource

then you get the trait that gives it an actual 500potency regen and suddenly it becomes your best healing ability that you want to pop on cooldown in pulls

Eh, it's a little more useful than that at low levels. If you're maxed on gall and don't foresee that changing any time particularly soon but need the mana regen it's your best button to hit.

Honestly? Checks out, I leveled miner from 81 to 90 in a day with only 6 leves. Between that and Ishgard Restoration for faster lower-level levelling getting crafters and gatherers at 90 is easy. Although it's probably slower once you finish all Studium quests since they're a good chunk of EXP.

Also holy moly the MIN/BTN Studium capstone. Hinageshi totally planned everything out to bait him into proposing, I know it.

With the Firmament as a catchup mechanic and GC turn-ins and leves having such high XP payouts it's really easy to get hooked by how fast you progress through levels. It helps that crafting is pretty fun too.

I think if there's any time to revamp things for the sake of new players, 6.x/7.0 seems like the time. With all the talk of 6.x being the set up for a new story arc, I have to wonder if they might just give new players the option to start there, and then have 2.0->6.0 served by NG+

But I also have no idea how they pull that off, cause it's not like they can make 6.x or the start of 7.0 mechanically new player friendly without making it really boring for veterans. I'm not entirely sure they can do a level squish without completely obliterating the balance of old content.

e: Minor gripe, but I decided to work on my ARR Sightseeing log after finding a website that just tells you exactly when they'll be available... only now i'm roadblocked by #9 cause the weather in Gridania is snow for the event...

For story in 6.x and 7 I do kinda hope they do a reset at least of scope and scale. Once you finish the huge thing in EW, it seems like it might be a good time for a little classic adventuring with maybe some minor political intrigue, and then they can build up to another Big Deal over time. Give us some new characters and areas but let the story breathe a little bit, maybe an ARR 2.0 but ya know, less tedious from the get go. I just think it would be a mistake to try and go even bigger with the scope and (level 90 EW spoilers) our good friend Emet-Selch gave us plenty of ideas for things to see and do. We don't have to jump right into a big existential threat, this isn't Star Trek: Discovery.

They've been pretty on the ball so far with that sort of thing. The Blue Mage questline could maybe be considered to cut a bit too close to historical realities, and you could maybe argue it was a fumble to make the New World Headdress a roach, but it didn't seem to bother people at the time.

They already have a premade evil empire for the new world they can crib from in the aztecs and how they subjugated all the other peoples in the region. And you could have human sacrifices be part of a ascian plot in that region or something.

Or that could be a empire destroyed by a calamity and now you have to help people who accidentally reactivate ancient war golems that fuel themselves by sacrificing captured foes to themselves.

I really wanna know that the Ascians in the new world were working on during the war of the magi and such that helped prime the world for the giant flood.

They could make jojo pillar men by having mages that fuel their shapeshifting powers by draining other people of their astral aether, leaving behind mindless husks that are basically light-zombies.

There is a lot of good stuff they can reference or allude to.

I solo'd Emanation Extreme the other day as a 90 warrior. Took me a few tries because I didn't know the mechanics and I barely beat the enrage timer. Pool of Tribute Ex is impossible to solo due to mechanics.

I haven't tried any of them since EW, but several of the HW Ex's were difficult to impossible to solo at 80.

Limitless Blue: Need to have enough damage/burst to kill the adds.
Z1T9: I couldn't survive a killer kombo late in the fight but maybe I could by timing an invulv.
S1T7: I couldn't survive the first Chesed.
Nidhogg: Took me half an hour and a 25% echo to kill at 80.
