It's not just freedom of personal belief, it's freedom from societal constraints to think say and do whatever as long as you have the cash. I actually think it's a more cross-cutting political problem than one would assume and is largely responsible for left factionalism. We would do well to focus on what we can agree on.

I'm going to put money down that one of the 'full and reliable documents' is the Protocols of Zion, not only because they need to read a better fake book, but because "the global oligarchs who are all powerful and control all media and science and arts and banks are going to destroy Christian Europe by slightly expanding sex education and voting rights" is about the same caliber of argument.

I think they just see traditionalism as you get to a certain age then you get your one free hot wife automatically and then u gently caress. Everything else is window dressing around this. They just want the chance to gently caress with less effort, to the point they’ve all but destroyed western society.

I'm fairly sure a hell of a lot of public support for Starmer would melt the second we're in an election cycle and he actually has to campaign and make people give a poo poo. If nothing else Blair did have some gravitas about him and could win round an audience.

I imagine he could outnumber the tories but it would depend on how the next few years go, if/when they knife boris and who replaces him and what they do. I think the best thing for them to do is to get rid of him and put someone with quite different affect in the role and try to rebrand the party a bit. They can certainly beat keith at his own game if they tried.

I genuinely don't know which is the worse option between asset stripping Tories and asset stripping Blairites who strip 10% fewer assets but also thoroughly discredit 'socialism' in the eyes of the public for the next two decades. I do think it's very unlikely Labour wins unless Bojo completely shits the bed and the Tories fail to put up another figure who can disavow him. That said even then it's an uphill battle, Labour always has to give people a reason to vote for them (fairly!) but the Tories could probably win a solid 30% of the vote even if they legalised noncing the week before the election. Related to this, I was only seven when Blair came to power but did Thatcher/Major era popular culture have that same welfare-safari dole-shaming thread to it that became so common in the New Labour period? It's still about of course but way less intense than it used to be. Can blame for the eradication of prole solidarity actually be laid at Labour's feet, rather than Thatcher?
