Here are some admittedly lovely pics:

The pictures can't show it and reviews mention it, but the difference in screen quality is astronomical. Granted, the Switch Lite is made to be a cheap device with a low cost, but if it didn't come with the massive advantage of being a Switch that can play Switch games, it would probably cost half as much off materials alone. The RG552 is super sturdy feeling, the bigger and added parts give that extra weight you'd expect from a metal body, and were this thing cold to the touch, I'd think it was metal anyway.

Even when compared to the 351M, I can tell the 552 screen is better. The 351 screen isn't bad looking by any stretch, but the 552 one is *really nice*

Overall, I think the device is pretty solid. It is, however, super disappointing that Saturn and Gamecube emulation is trash and PSP emulation can be good depending on how you tweak things. It some ways, it does feel like Anbernic took a half-step while everyone around them is trying to take a solidified first step, but they balance that by having arguably the best build quality among the bunch. The only thing I hate about the build is that the buttons are colored now and not just black.

Also, something I didn't think would happen until later, the 552 is up on Amazon with the typical $30 extra. It comes with Prime and it looks like if someone wanted the grey one, they'd get it before Christmas.

Also fuckin lol at the Amazon thing. It’s what I get for being an early adopter.

The videos I watched seemed to suggest Saturn emulation was just fine. But across the board the emulation seems to be better on Android than Linux, so maybe check that out?

Those side by side shots have done more to convince me on the 552 than any of their marketing.

Somebody made a neat tool where you can choose a retro system and a bunch of the popular new handhelds and it’ll show you how big it’ll look on the screen with integer or non-integer scaling.

So, I adore my Anbernic RG351MP...

...but now I'm wondering if I can get a piece of hardware as nice to connect to my TV.

Is it best to hack it out with a Raspberry Pi? Or are there actual devices worth the time and money, a'la these lovely handhelds?

There are all kinds of cheap Android TV boxes now that’ll do better than a RPi at that kind of thing for around the same money or less.

You could get the RG552. It's expensive, but it's literally a blown up, more powerful 351 with HDMI out.

Found this guide to help with configuring hotkeys on the RG552 - https://gist.github.com/maddox/fca7fa3f00265eb15d23ed4556e4c78e

Turns out there's another config file which you can use to make sure the default settings you want take effect and you don't do it within Retroarch. You have to do it this way otherwise it'll just overwrite the changed preferences with the system defaults when you quit the game.

Looking for a handheld on Amazon around ~$120 max that do up to ps1 well. Obvi n64 and dc would be great but I know it’s asking a lot in that range. Wish I had jumped on those 351s when they were $70

You should be able to cop a 351P for around that price.

If you don’t need to use Amazon, the RP2+ is similarly priced, but Retroid’s biggest downside is build quality. Not that things don’t work, but that they clearly get their prices down by having cheaper plastics.

This is a decent deal for a RG351P:

https://www.amazon.com/DREAMHAX-RG3...s%2C176&sr=8-21

Also this is what I have and it’s pretty good, if you like the Game Boy form factor:

What do you want to play? If you're happy going up to PS1 and N64, get a HK1 Box (the Glorious MUB, the Box of the People) for ~$40. If you want to go top of the line, get a Beelink GT King Pro for ~$150. If you want to go beyond Dreamcast and Saturn, you're looking at a PC.

Edit: the 4GB MUB is a better emulator than a 4GB Pi 4, to state that clearly.

If it’s 4px you need to google for the 4px site and type the number in there. It wouldn’t come up on any other site.

I actually figured out the other day that 17track's default automatic detection thing is stupid and that 4PX is actually on there if you manually go to shipping services and select China, but it's way less detailed than any other 4PX tracking website you get from googling. My shipping date says the 28th, hell, if these weren't delayed my friend probably would have gotten my old RP2 in a shell as her gift instead of the 2DS I fell back on.

Is anyone interested in buying a GPi 2 case + dock or whatever else comes with the deluxe edition? I bought it off of pure retrodrenaline but I’m probably never going to use this.

I can’t find its page on Amazon anymore, it just goes straight to the one without the dock. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09DPNV4HM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_XKJJ6229X36RXR5C8FBB

If anyone is interested, I’ll make a thread on the Mart. It’d just be whatever I paid + shipping which is probably a few bucks under $100 shipped. If no one’s interested, I’ll just return it.
