To be fair responding to someone not liking your favorite video game by calling it "unfortunate or contrarian" is pretty sensitive.

Lots of bad opinions in this thread, every one of which is posted in earnest. And that's okay.

i played the game for 80 hours dude, i'm a fan, but the combat is very mashy and generally not very interesting beyond the boss fights and the last area. everything else is just kind of a dps check. hades fans are too sensitive.

Sounds like what I said, Beat 'em up style, which can be rather button-mashy.

If that's too simplistic then yeah, you're not bound to enjoy it too much. The different combos/builds help making that somewhat more variable, but your point stands.

Yeah I was being in earnest. It would be nice if people could get the same amount of enjoyment out of things as others. I don't think that's a bad thought or overly sensitive.

It's unfortunate when that's not the case. It's a shame someone spent money and time on a thing and discovered they didn't care for it. I think it's unfortunate I didn't really enjoy playing Undertale for example because a lot of people really seemed to have enjoyed it and I'd have liked to enjoy too.

I don't think Foul Fowl is being contrarian at all, just the dude having issue paying money for certain types of games. Sorry if I came as sarcastic, it wasn't my intent.

80% of the game goes like this: as you explore an area, you run into demons that you can either kill or recruit. You then fuse your recruited demons into stronger demons which you can then use to kill/recruit stronger demons, and so on. The gameplay loop is very addictive once you get into it. Also the music rules.

Don't know about OLED models but it runs fine on my OG Switch, arguably better than in docked mode.

The colors pop like crazy on OLED, it's great. Also seconding this opinion, my favorite part of SMTV so far has been no need to grind at all. It throws xp down your throat, and makes it obvious it's all about the fusions. Makes it really fun to explore and not feel like I need to grind out every fight I see.

The game does have some framerate slowdowns in handheld, but I haven't found it problematic where it matters, just the wide open areas.

Looking forward to unwrapping it, though I might be distracted by Saints Row IV for a bit. Spent about 3 hours on it last night, a good half of which was just jumping on buildings and collecting shinies.

As a hobbyist gamedev Saints Row IV feels like they established a complete regular game engine then one of the devs said, "Tee-hee, look what I did to the physics," and a director saw it, approved, and designed the game around it.

I can see why some people are put off by the narrative justifications for it but the fact that one of the activities is throwing your body into ragdoll mode while still being able to accelerate it and getting points for how much you can bounce it without coming to a stop is

the first is very different, the second is definitely trying to be a port but still has different level design, and the third is somewhat different. they're all worse than their snes equivalents but still worth checking out if you love dkc, I'd probably recommend them over the gba ports

i was mostly talking poo poo when i called hades fans sensitive, talking poo poo in this thread is a lot of fun. i think more games need to rip off hades' build granularity because that's what made the game for me, i think i didn't repeat a build in the first 10-15 hours and that was some of the most fun i've ever had with a roguelike.

i also bought spelunky and i keep getting surprised at how mean it is. it's like the opposite of hades which is the gentlest, coziest roguelike ever. spelunky is cold and harsh and it calls you bad at games to your face.

I still enjoyed the game but the performance can be quite bad even after a few patches. I could never understand why the Switch could handle all three Crysis games better than the original consoles they were on but then run something like Saints Row IV like rear end.

My Switch is sometimes taking a while to wake from sleep. I've done a full reboot, and it's usually fine a few times after that, but then it goes back to waiting about 10 seconds from pressing the power button. Anyone have any idea why?

We bought it in December of 2018.

I think there have been a few hitches in combat but for the most part I'm too distracted by bouncing from roof to roof.

I did stop to ponder for a moment that none of whatever tricks they used to get a game like that running on the Switch weren't obvious to me. Wasn't distracted by any pop-in, didn't catch LoD upgrades or downgrades. The one thing I wondered is that it seems to always be night in the city but I think that was a design choice so they didn't have to make assets that looked good in multiple contexts.

Yes it's a 2013 game but it feels impressive compared to the other stuff I've played on the Switch. It's definitely not a bad port.

In SR4, is the entire map open from the beginning of the game, or does it unlock as you play the story? I ask because a few bucks is a great asking price for a game I'd get solely to drive/jump around in while listening to the radio.

I seem to remember SR3 being open from the get-go, but I could be mistaken.

Yep, same. So I restarted and went with an almost default look, and it seemed to work fine.

I have no idea if that was from the restart, or the less-customized character, but I wasn't going to go through all of the settings again to try.

While that sucks, at least plastic surgery is there so you can do it later. Not trying to excuse it obviously but its not as bad as it could be

Oh my god. My wife moved her profile to my old Switch and then factory reset her old one. She didn't know that ACNH islands were locked to the console, not the profile. She spent SO much time on it.

What's worse is that neither of us knew they patched in an island transfer tool until it was too late. Now she has no choice but to fully restart.
