Won a storage locker auction. The Patti Smith and Roxy Music were the only things I was really interested in but I’ll listen to some Judy Collins.

Just know that every mix I make has me touching all the records I play inappropriately. Remember that time I drunkenly tried scratching with an OG Troutmask Repica? https://www.mixcloud.com/mawesome/well-dang/ Good times! I also store most of them without plastic outer sleeves. Honestly, that Marianne Faithful album, Broken English, is the bees knees. My mom had that album. Imagine what it was to teenager and hearing the lyrics to "Why'd You Do It?" which is rather graphic.

My late uncle has 400 original LPs in a collection he was very passionate about, I am being given the pick of it but once I have stripped the Grateful Dead etc out what is the best way to help my aunt sell the rest? Is there an app or do I stil use Pop sike like the OP then sell via facebook etc? Thanks in advance and happy holidays everyone.

Honestly I'd put them up on Craig's list or Facebook and sell in bulk to someone who has an antique mall booth or record shop. You don't want to deal with grading and shipping for that many, not to mention returns when people think you didn't grade it correctly. If you don't have any idea what the collection is worth post some pictures here and I'm sure everyone will throw some numbers out.

The easiest way to do it is to go to a local record store, and work with them. My store will come out to you depending on the size of the collection. You will get less money for this, but the records will be out of your house and you won't have to deal with the trouble of selling it. If there's any that you think are REALLY valuable, you may want to sell that yourself or at the very least separate them from the pack to try and get a little more for them.

Painting back in manufacturing issues with a black sharpie is some greasy poo poo. ERC seems to be whiffing it hard on $500 boutique records. And losing a shoot out between a “only tubes and bleep blorps used in the making of this record” and a $40 reissue on colored vinyl doesn’t seem like the boutique label can really do anything right here. dorium fucked around with this message at 15:49 on Dec 25, 2021 |

You'll get more money nickel and diming them on ebay or discogs or something but you'll save your sanity if you just cherry pick the valuable poo poo and sell the rest as a lot to a dealer or collector. dorium posted:Mmmmm fried egg I said this in the thread before but the readily available reissue that costs 20 bucks is an all analog pressing made with all that fancypants bullshit. I can't imagine what the makers of that 500 dollar reissue could have done with it to make it sound any better than it does (which is great by the way). It's pretty obvious Third Man did this because they know how much money people will shell out for their dumb gimmicks which is really all this thing is.

I remember when the thing was announced and I scoured the ERC page to figure out what justified the cost. This is up there with the NFT grift. A readily available thing that someone has told you has a value of $500.

BigFactory posted:I think the low ones start with a letter, right? I actually went and looked it up at one point because I was interested in the origins of the copy I got from my father-in-law. each of the main pressing plants (jacksonville, los angeles, scranton, UK) had separate numbering formats, and those formats changed over time. early jacksonville pressings have a number led by a large dot, for example, while first-print LA records (if memory serves) had a six-digit number with a leading zero (i.e. seven digits total) and no prefix, but the second LA 1968 pressing (which is the one I inherited) has a small sans-serif A before a number in the same format. The UK pressing Ringo auctioned off some time back was stamped "No. 0000001," and that format (I think) was later adopted by some of the US presses as well in later, higher-number editions.

For Christmas I got Mass Romantic by New Pornographers, Live Forever by Bartees Strange, Hurry Up We're Dreaming by M83, Grace by Jeff Buckley, Menneskekollektivet by Lost Girls, The Rip Tide by Beirut, and Screen Violence by CHVRCHES. And my dad gave me a copy of this, as he's getting older and has now bought 3 copies of it by accident

Hurry Up We're Dreaming is one of those albums that was everywhere when it came out but then everyone just forgot about it (except ad firms who put Outro in dozens of tv commercials) and that's a shame because it's a really good album. There's a whole bunch of stuff from around that time that happened to. Like MGMT. Everyone forgot they existed. I really liked their second and third albums. The first is good but I listened to it nine million times in 2008 so I can probably do without it and it's certainly weaker than the next two.

you ever listen to the fourth MGMT album? it was kinda a little comeback for them, wasn't a smash or anything but got pretty respectable reviews and a lot of "if they'd just followed up the first album with this they'd probably still be pretty big" (I actually really like Congratulations a lot, but that third album, no thank you)

I was pretty hyped when they came back but I was kind of let down by Little Dark Age. It's got a few couple good singles but the album itself did do much for me. Congratulations is obviously their best by far. And I know the third/self titled album is pretty divisive but I really like it. My ranking would be: Congratulations MGMT Oracular Spectacular Little Dark Age I've always been a big fan of them actually but seeing them live was really disappointing. They're just not a good live band at all. They just have no stage presence and they pretty much just sound exactly like the record on stage.

But I played the gently caress out of that album in ye olden days so at this point in my life I don't really feel like listening to it again. I remember when Congratulations came out it was really divisive and people were pissing and moaning that it didn't sound like the first album which was exactly what I liked about it. They went in a very different direction and it paid off, it's a much better record. And why would you want the same album twice?
