Hi there, would you like to try some spicy products?

piL posted:

The gist is that Twitch TOS doesn't ban words specifically, but instead bans "hateful content" against protected categories which they define as below.

While taking action on "racial slurs" against a group historically absent of harm feels authoritarian, harm isn't part of the definition. Making a distinction in enforcement weighing harm against the perceived target of a word and/or the perceptions of hundreds of thousands of viewers is really difficult because there's no way to practically quantify that harm. Twitch chose to categorically prohibit the behavior instead of trying to quantify harm.

Twitch is super lax on enforcement of that policy, and doesn't ban for a whole multitude of slurs, including ableist poo poo, or thinly veiled racist slurs that simply aren't "the big ones". In this case, they just caved to white folks being pissed after one streamer caused a stir over it, and now decided to enforce the policy for the poor disenfranchised white race.

It's dumb as all hell, honestly.

Twitch pops "muppet" too, as we discovered during an art request stream when someone was trying to request characters in the style of Kermit and Gonzo.

The hot tub streams became a thing over the past couple years I think? I don't see the point with all of the other "content" available on the internet.

Twitch is my generic background noise at this point. I don't have any sort of TV subscription any more so I usually just have a Tarkov stream playing on my laptop while I'm on my desktop.

Same. It's basically white noise TV on my other monitor while I wait for loading screens in a total war campaign to finish.

Aren't the Irish very catholic?

I'm kinda curious where this leaves the Manx, but from my understanding, the Isle of Man is pretty much the UK's version of West Virginia. Not for the coal mining, but for the cousin loving. Being that it changed hands with some frequency but never had large migrations of french or irish or whoever was claiming it that week until the crown shuffled it into the british isles category.

My favorite is that the anime forum rules about "not being creepy" are usually interpreted to mean in practice "don't make fun of goons who are being really horny, even goons who are being horny about 1000 year old dragon wizards in a 12 year old's body."

Right in the middle of a series of QCS threads about that happening one of the mods just straight up posted child porn on the site.

:siren: NEW CDC GUIDELINES :siren:

https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2021/s1227-isolation-quarantine-guidance.html

[quote]Given what we currently know about COVID-19 and the Omicron variant, CDC is shortening the recommended time for isolation from 10 days for people with COVID-19 to 5 days, if asymptomatic, followed by 5 days of wearing a mask when around others. The change is motivated by science demonstrating that the majority of SARS-CoV-2 transmission occurs early in the course of illness, generally in the 1-2 days prior to onset of symptoms and the 2-3 days after. Therefore, people who test positive should isolate for 5 days and, if asymptomatic at that time, they may leave isolation if they can continue to mask for 5 days to minimize the risk of infecting others.

Additionally, CDC is updating the recommended quarantine period for those exposed to COVID-19. For people who are unvaccinated or are more than six months out from their second mRNA dose (or more than 2 months after the J&J vaccine) and not yet boosted, CDC now recommends quarantine for 5 days followed by strict mask use for an additional 5 days. Alternatively, if a 5-day quarantine is not feasible, it is imperative that an exposed person wear a well-fitting mask at all times when around others for 10 days after exposure. Individuals who have received their booster shot do not need to quarantine following an exposure, but should wear a mask for 10 days after the exposure. For all those exposed, best practice would also include a test for SARS-CoV-2 at day 5 after exposure. If symptoms occur, individuals should immediately quarantine until a negative test confirms symptoms are not attributable to COVID-19.

Isolation relates to behavior after a confirmed infection. Isolation for 5 days followed by wearing a well-fitting mask will minimize the risk of spreading the virus to others. Quarantine refers to the time following exposure to the virus or close contact with someone known to have COVID-19. Both updates come as the Omicron variant continues to spread throughout the U.S. and reflects the current science on when and for how long a person is maximally infectious.

Data from South Africa and the United Kingdom demonstrate that vaccine effectiveness against infection for two doses of an mRNA vaccine is approximately 35%. A COVID-19 vaccine booster dose restores vaccine effectiveness against infection to 75%. COVID-19 vaccination decreases the risk of severe disease, hospitalization, and death from COVID-19. CDC strongly encourages COVID-19 vaccination for everyone 5 and older and boosters for everyone 16 and older. Vaccination is the best way to protect yourself and reduce the impact of COVID-19 on our communities.[/quote[

The ending of Don't Look Up made me feel kinda bleh cause it's so completely tonally dissonant from the first like 2 hours (lol). Having the cast just gather around and put aside differences to have one final home cooked dinner and trying to keep each other's minds off the imminent apocalypse just felt like it was in the completely wrong movie. The son starting to freak out from the house shaking and everyone trying to talk over it until his dad puts a hand on his shoulder to let him know he's with people to the very end was a sweet moment that combined with "oh everyone loving dies" just felt so at odds with the rest of the movie.
