It ain't redecorating, it's just temporarily moving a bit of cardboard a few feet when you're in meetings. I'd just have a chuckle to myself and then rake in the money to spend on more Davito memorabilia.

Like, yes, the boss probably doesn't think as highly of this guy as the OP thinks they do - if a single piece of decoration means he's never getting a raise, he was already on thin ice. But I'm confused what you mean when you say the company doesn't have the right to tell him how he decorates his home? The company has the ability to tell him, "When you're on work calls, you cannot have a a Danny DeVito visible on the call." If he says no, they can fire him or discipline him, or view that as evidence that he's not promotion/supervision material. What stops the company from doing that? A general amorphous sense that the company shouldn't care? Well sure, but that really depends on the company. Maybe it's a porn company and the customers don't like looking at Danny DeVito, so their viewership goes down. Or maybe he's a lawyer, and when you appear before the judge there are certain levels of expected professionalism (wear a suit, or at least look like you're wearing a suit or formal wear, don't have distracting things in the background). Or maybe he's dealing with wacko customers. Or maybe his boss just really doesn't like Danny DeVito and finds him distracting, and he lives in a part of the world (like the United States) where a boss can fire you for any reason or no reason at all, and you better lick that boot and like it or you're gonna get canned.

Im not American, so that might be the source of the confusion. Over here the boss would have to provide evidence of how a cardboard Danny DeVito was materially affecting his performance if he wanted to discipline him for it. At most companies questions would be asked of the boss' judgement along the lines of "why are you causing trouble with a long term asset who, until cardboard Danny showed up, you were talking up for a big promotion?" I'm a manager at my work and part of that role right now is remembering that while my team work in my department, they do so from their houses. I wouldn't let one of my team bring cardboard Danny into the office, but if he's in their house and he's not causing any problems then I'd leave him alone. Maybe I'm a lovely manager, who knows?

If the cutout is weirding out people on zoom, management would be correct in looking for ways to resolve that, and the simplest would be moving the cutout. It's not clear from the post whether anyone besides the boss cares, but the boss caring might be enough Zoom backgrounds are a sort of weird space in between work and home, they're not fully either but work definitely deserves input on their contents. They don't get to dictate parts of your home the camera can't see or hear, of course

Person is now competing in professional grappling competitions. I have two questions for this community. 1 . How do you feel about having a convicted rapist being allowed to compete in professional grappling. How do you feel about other competitors willingly competing against this convicted rapist while being aware of his history. Thanks. Unsurprisingly, given the propensity for some BJJ types to support sex offenders, there was a shitload of people speaking up for this guy being allowed to compete and then the thread got locked. I mean, do we consider time served as justice, or do we continue to shun people after they have served their court ordered time? If that's not impossible enough to answer, is the person remorseful and changed? Do they admit as much?

Probably don't practice with him alone, but otherwise who cares. Is he going to spontaneously start raping people in front of a crowd? Shunning him socially in general is a reasonable reaction to his crimes, the BJJ piece (in a public setting) is irrelevant.

I misread the insta-fail exam post. I thought it was trap questions that tanked your score if you didn't notice they were traps and answered them correctly. Like if he'd said "don't answer any questions about triangles" to screw over anyone who wasn't paying attention in class that day. Still a stupid idea. Not just because there's very few reasons to be playing gotcha in a college course but because if you do that you need to have absolutely zero room for a half-answer. Make them true/false, or set them apart or something. Don't just say "you need to be extra-special careful with five questions in here, I won't tell you which ones".

It's a known thing among tattoo artists that you should never ever give someone anything remotely resembling a white supremacy tattoo, because you will immediately become known as the Nazi Tattooist and all the nazis who get turned down by any sane tattooist will flock to your door but everyone else will never patronize your business again. I feel like being the Child Rapist Dojo ought to be a comparable scenario. I for one would cancel my membership tout de suite.

In 2005 the Navy deployed me to Kuwait to staff a medical clinic supporting Army units being staged for movement north into Iraq. Jarhead had just come out, with the dog tag branding scene. Every couple weeks we'd have to treat a new pack of idiots who'd imitated it, and gotten their third-degree burns subsequently infected. Despite posting the Inglourious Basterds clip above, I wouldn't at all be surprised if dumbfuck Nazis started adopting scarification or branding themselves as a "look how 'ard I am" rite of passage and mark of dedication. I bet it already happens in the more hardcore groups.
