I guess ending in 2018 it might not be super recent anymore but I thought Aggretsuko was pretty good. It's like an office comedy but with Sanrio characters Satoshi Kon made pretty good anime not necessarily "for kids". Junji Ito too if you're more of a horror fan Edit: also if you're into romantic dramas at all basically anything Ai Yazawa made past Paradise Kiss has been very much Not For Children
