Part of me wonders what life would be like for the Gina Millers of the world if they couldn't find someone to shill for, and they had to get a real job.
But then, that's why they have to shill so hard when they find someone willing to give them money, isn't it? That gnawing understanding that they're utterly unemployable by any reasonable standard.

Gina Miller has actually accomplished quite a lot. Your criticism may be broadly true but I don’t think it is in this instance.

Yeah this is all enjoyably baffling. Although it does explain why the photo in the fake Gina miller account looks nothing like her.

Robert Zands & Kelvin Knox are both characters in the Trevor Bastard Extended Universe, which is a bunch of really perfect parody accounts of the meltiest of melts. Probably his most famous work is Simon Hedges.

Gina Miller is a real melty liberal however & this new centrist party is comic but all too real apparently

Zands and Knox (and at this point gently caress knows how many other accounts) are part of the Trevor Bastard Extended Universe (TBEU), a trolling operation that at this point definitely needs to be considered one of the greatest pieces of longform performance art in online history.

Basically they're parodies of the #FBPE crowd (and the general Blairshagger commentariat), and if I'm honest not particularly subtle, but that lack of subtlety just makes it all the funnier when they *do* ensnare people.

Simon Hedges isn't actually a Grannymugger Production, he's a single account run by someone else IIRC, and predates the TBEU by quite a bit, although I'd say he definitely is part of the TBEU.

I'll be honest I don't "get" TBEU. Like they catch people out but you'd have to be terminally online to know what was going on, so it's never actually that funny. It's not like people getting tricked by getfiscal.

Nah I'm not all that online and my twitter follows are typically mundane, but there's some real gold in just adding the tbeu accounts to your feed. It's like a soap opera but all the lead characters are pitch perfect parodies of the worst kind of fbpe melt and when someone sincere takes the bait it tends to be hilarious.

The world building involved is genuinely impressive, I've no idea how Trevor keeps everything going without posting from the wrong alt and incorporating non tbeu folks who are in on it into the mix.

E: the comparison to getfiscal is interesting. It's a very different style, getfiscal posts individual, usually unconnected tweets that are expertly crafted to go for the throat. Tbeu is much more of a long con which ebbs and flows. It doesn't need too much keeping track of but if you know the lore it helps.

Conversation has moved on a bit, but does anyone have a good article which takes dissects crypto and explains why it's awful? Because it's an attempt to shift the existing framework so that the cryptobros are now the bourgeoisie without improving the lives of anyone else.

Crypto and NFTs both operate on mind-boggling levels of completely blatant market abuse and scamming - it's a snakepit of people who all want to get rich quick for no effort defrauding each other all the way down to infinity. Don't be one of the poor suckers who gets drawn into it for fear of missing out and ends up losing their life savings.

Yes this is the funny bit, like I also probably wouldn't be able to tell, but the funny part is when people who think they're absolutely king poo poo get got and then completely lose their loving minds about it.

Also "robert zands" is a play on bobby sands so that one at least is quite funny.

Crypto currencies are utterly unusable as a currency because the large energy costs involved in transactions prevent truly widespread adoption, as such they are a purely speculative asset that require new people to bring their own real money in to inflate the cost. A pyramid scene, basically.

I wonder if it's just confirmation bias on my part, or if this sentiment is becoming much more common and visible? I feel like in the last few months I've seen more and more people saying this and denouncing crypto. Until fairly recently I had assumed that it must have some actual value/purpose beyond speculation that I was just too dumb to understand

OwlFancier
Aug 22, 2013

I suppose initially the only people interested in it would be the "enthusiasts" and the more widespread it becomes (and exposed to people who don't have piles of money to throw away on useless poo poo) the more common the "this seems like a massive scam" idea would become.

Because it pretty obviously is, you need to be primed with a lot of stupid techbro brain to actually believe it can be anything other than an insane speculation racket.

It has no value whatsoever other than people hoping they'll get rich with it.

The original bitcoin was an interesting tech demo, flawed in multiple ways and pretty weird, but an interesting idea for sure. Unfortunately the creator decided to allocate the bitcoins to people in such a way that anyone could create bitcoins from nothing, and whoever had the fastest computer would be able to create the most... and the whole thing was literally instantly seized by a group of wankers who wanted to become rich with it or whatever. Everything else follows from there.
