I'm at a small firm and am absolutely irreplaceable. I've been supposed to be going into work for the last seven months and decided I won't be. Absolutely nobody has said anything. I think it's because they tried to pull something on me and I cited the labor statute it violates.

So I'm sorry to any goon going in right now. Not everyone can just ultimatum their way to safety.

We're still on hybrid here so I'm in 2 days a week which is actually a great balance for me. Still lets me have a couple bicycle commutes a week and touch some things in person but I also get uninterrupted time at home when I can reduce rather than expand my task list. I'm in a small-ish shared office so we rotate who's in and so it's only one of us at a time.

Would like this perpetually.

The best apologies are crafted with love.
My state agency is also on a hybrid model and I really like it. Going in to the office 3 days a week and working from home 2 days works really well for me and it seems likely to stay that way given the huge amount of positive feedback. Plus my work from home days are Monday and Friday so I can't complain too much.

This is a real thing. There's a couple of reasons for them.

1. Mill hunkies built basement bathrooms to not drag soot, slag and other dirty, toxic poo poo thru their houses after work.

2. The local geology necessitated tall, skinny houses often built on a lot of clay rich soil. Much easier to snake out your waste sewer line at ground level.

Also thanks everyone who commented congrats.

Yeah, I went to one in Pittsburgh and the cookie table does in fact rule and should become commonplace.

Cookie table sounds wonderful. Though maybe something we should wait until after the plague to widely adopt.

Very jealous of the work from home crew. I'm an essential employee who has to defend a fellow employees job today from a bunch of managers on computer screens. Here's hoping they don't fire a guy going through crisis when we're already down 15% of our staff and forcing multiple people into double shifts everyday.

To be totally honest - I kind of sat down and thought about all the poo poo I put into my body or my brain to make myself feel good - social media, video games, porn, trash tv, trash books, drugs, booze, lovely food and kind of ran down the list of the good and bad aspects of these and while I would personally be really happy to switch to weed and cut out everything else, I kind of feel like replacing booze with weed isn't really fixing my problem in the first place which is feeling the need to make myself feel good or better or some days, not miserable and try to find why I feel like I want or need these things over stuff that I do that's constructive and also makes me feel good.

Please don't take this as me pissing in your face over weed. I had a friend of mine I used to date who's a psychiatrist advise me to take a proper inventory of my habits and work on myself a little bit while I hunted for jobs so I don't get to the point where I snap and resign and I kind of realised my habits aren't as good as I thought they were just because I read before bed and lift weights every day. There's quite a bit more I could substitute and improve if I want to be happier overall.

not at all, i did something similar a few years back. it did wonders for me and actually is part of why im a big proponent of weed now. for myself its much easier to manage than alcohol or anything else, it helps a lot with pain management and sleep, and i routinely go weeks in between uses without feeling any way about it.

Happy only-kinda-working day to everyone, or at least hopefully most of us. I'm visiting my parents in a weed-legal state (AZ) and my sister and I went to a dispensary to buy about $90 worth of gummies and cartridges for my mom, who "hasn't had any since it was called 'grass'", probably the 70s. She's definitely a bit apprehensive, but we got the ones that are essentially half THC and half CBD and she is having a good experience with her small doses so far.

those are great, the 1:1 ratio stuff (equal amts THC to CBD) help keep you from feeling too high and work wonders for pain, plus you usually feel amazing from the mood elevation

I didn’t like WFH, but I know a lot of that had to do with the job I had at the time (Chewy) and having a poor workspace setup in my apartment. I don’t really have the space to set up a true home office, I don’t even have a good space for a desk, and there’s too much temptation to gently caress around or snack or otherwise be distracted. I need the separation of my work life and home life, both mentally and physically.

WFH needs a type of discipline that doesn't exist when you are communing to a different location. It is even more so if you have kids or other dependents that don't understand not to interrupt even if you are at home. I worked from home years before covid in an 1 bed apartment with a puppy around and it was very difficult to concentrate and separate work and life. During covid I have moved home and one of the things that I made sure I had was an office that was aware from the main living area and it makes it much better. I have a lot of sympathy for those in the last couple of years who have had no option but to work from home and have had their kids at home as schools were closed.

Total respect and didn't mean to stigmatize lifetime sobriety if that's how it came across. It's more the towing such a strong line then going "gently caress it, why not?" at age 35 that was the object of my fascination.

Alcohol's been a no-go for me from the jump because of family history and how much I hate the taste of it, and it very recently became a no-go for me for medical reasons as I'm on anticoagulation for the rest of my life after heart surgery a few years back. So even on top of it being something I was a little wary of because I don't love the idea of losing my faculties, getting drunk was always just sort of out of the question.

I've had plenty of opportunities to get high even before Jersey legalized it, but just never felt like giving it a go—again, mostly because I didn't like the idea of losing my faculties. I dunno, maybe I'm a wuss or something. I tried a quarter of an edible a while back to basically no effect. Then this New Year's Eve, my sister-in-law offers up edibles for the upteenth time at our very small family gathering and for a reason still as yet inexplicable to me I said eh, gently caress it, and downed 10mg. I was fine for an hour or so, then got promptly hosed up.

I wish I had a more thoughtful answer than "I dunno I guess I just kinda felt like it," honestly.

'course, only afterward did I look up if edibles interact poorly with blood thinners. Turns out the results are mixed, so I dunno if I'll ever be doing it again. I'm kinda okay with that.
