henkman posted:Just a complete nosedive in quality after Hellbound I marathoned the entire franchise at the starft of lockdown in March 2020 and good god that tracks. The only slight positive you'll meet as you get further and further into how bad the franchise got is when you get to the 8th one with Henry Cavill and Lance Henriksen but the film itself is just a Saw movie with the serial number filed off. SilvergunSuperman posted:Isn't that the series where they just started using lovely B movie scripts that couldn't get made and slapping the Hellraiser ip on it? Yep, and it really shows. Pinhead is almost always retroactively shoehorned into the films as an afterthought to get a guaranteed audience to seek it out.

I watched Encanto last night, and I have to say that it was pretty good. I could have stood for about 40% less Lin-Manuel Miranda music, but it had a lot of visual flourish and the story was a bit better than your typical 3d-era Disney. I just realized that Being the Ricardos is on Amazon Prime, and I'm going to have to watch that since everyone is torn between being absolutely convinced that Nicole Kidman is a lock for a best actress Oscar (or at least a nomination) and being convinced that she gave the worst performance of the year.

I turned it on while folding laundry because she and Javier Bardem look nothing like Lucy and Desi and ended up watching the whole thing. It felt like such a weird parody of the west wing with everyone having exchangeable personalities and fast-paced dialogue but no new information is learned from any of these conversations. The biggest one was this thing Lucy would do where someone would make a two-pointed argument and then fixate on the first thing said and try to break it down while ignoring the second half. I’m not sure how to articulate it better than dumb guy writing “smart”. I guess it was to show that she saw through how people will make an offhand comment which reveals what they’re actually thinking. So I was not shocked to see it was an Aaron Sorkin movie afterwards. The story tries to do something about her personal convictions with a lot of flashbacks but honestly I’m not sure what point he was trying to make. I enjoyed Kidman in the I Love Lucy re-enactments and to watch everyone dump on the woman that played Ethel.

Imagine my dismay watching Being the Ricardos then going “hey I’ll watch an episode or two of Lucy!” loading up Hulu and seeing they don’t have the chocolate factory episode. Then noticing they don’t have about half of the series. Cool!

I liked 90% of Shang Chi, even if it would have been a way better movie if it had zero to do with the MCU. No Time to Die, at its absolute best, might sneak into a #10 spot if you just didn't watch a lot of good movies. Even that's being way generous.

Sure, it's a god drat mess that looks like a made for TV movie, but it at least made an effort to have some interesting ideas. Shang Chi was slick and well exectuted, but the formula for these movies have gotten so borrrrrrrrrring. It couldn't help hate almost the whole movie cause it was just the same poo poo they've done again and again. It's not bad, it's just that the formula isn't fun anymore.

I just watched the new Cobra Kai season, and they have a scene discussing how badass Cynthia Rothrock is. I wouldn't have watched Cobra Kai if it weren't for Rich and Jay talk about, and I only know about how cool Rothrock is because of RLM. It was a very satisfying intersection of things I learned to appreciate because of the boys.
