I think the general public is (slowly) getting there. Unfortunately, the general public doesn't have enough political power to do anything about it, and you can look at the past two years to see how effective "individual responsibility" is at dealing with a global problem.

We just had a fire that wiped out half a suburb in Colorado and the local reaction has been to call for more money for police and detectives so we can prosecute the guys who started it. Also a lot of calls for the death penalty and more powers be given to police to prevent this from ever happening again So yeah we are here now and people are not waking up at all, just becoming even more stupid and short term in their thinking as the disasters get worse.

Deer are the absolute worst, just the most stupid loving animals ever and half of them seem to have CWD and despite them drooling and oozing from open wounds like zombies the tourists want to feed them because they are sooo cute and it's just the most stupid poo poo ever. Like how sheltered do you have to be to think deer are cute? idk how many hunting permits we need to issue to cut the deer population by 90% but even that would mean way too many deer remaining, they are everywhere like rats

so in Texas as far as I know a lot of hunting is done on private land - and there isn’t much federal land at all until you hit Big Bend / almost New Mexico. I don’t hunt, but I have guns, and it’s my probably uninformed notion that “public” hunting in Texas is somewhat restrained - just like there really isn’t much space where you can just drive out to and attack a cardboard box or some cans - unless you own it or have permission from the owner i recall guys i worked with at txdot complaining that they hadn’t won the lottery for a tag in a while and that there was nowhere nearby to zero their guns wolfs has issued a correction as of 18:25 on Jan 6, 2022 |

It must have ran across the entire length of the field by the road I was driving on, ran straight into a 4 lane state route and I didn’t see it until it was halfway in the road. It then blasted its head straight into my rear door and window and flew like 10 ft in the air when I looked in my rearview. I stopped and couldn’t find it but my door and door handle were dented as gently caress, the glass surprisingly didn’t break and there was blood and fur all over the door and window. I found out later it died in a guys yard a bit further from where I stopped looking. Just the loving dumbest animals. I hunt deer and I’ve had them walk out of the woods and just stare at me as I raise my rifle and shoot, and stand still after the gun goes off if I miss and give me an eternity to fire again. We’ve also shot deer and let them lay, and 10 minutes later another one comes out and checks on it’s fallen brethren and just starts eating clover like everything is normal.
