Yeah that's why I specified the toothpicks above, NOT the high end bows. You want to use toothpicks on your archers for low damage and high rate of fire until they have "precision shooting" at very high levels.

Right, and especially especially if all your guys are wearing fairly heavy armor and can shrug off the toothpick hits. VVV

Yeah, iirc you can only level that stat by shooting your own people in the back, but it quickly gets up to acceptable levels if you have them shoot off toothpick crossbows into a fracas

My favorite Kenshi game was strictly small squad for a long, long time. A human, a dog, a robot (Burn), and Beep.

Everyone except the dog rocked a bow as their primary weapon, and for the beginning of the game we operated out of one of the UC desert locations doing mostly Skimmer hunting and scavenging. We had a nice little tanner shop set up to convert leather into cash.

Don’t sleep on the power of bows, you can deal a lot of damage very quickly even with middling skill. You can also kite and micro most enemies. I used the dog to micro and distract enemies while the archers shot them down. You can also form up in a loose semicircle formation and have unengaged archers shoot at melee enemies trying to chase or fight your other archers, while the dog eats enemy archers.

For me it was solo martial arts ex-slave out for revenge. After I got insanely powerful and the only thing holding me back was combat slots, I started recruiting ex slaves and destroying the UC. It was really fun just literally punching off limbs. Basically playing one punch man.

Martial arts starts off slow but it's probably the strongest thing in the game in the long run

Haven't actually tried but I'd guess you could make a target practice range by trapping a beakthing (or robocrab) inside a shed, putting a repair bed nearby, and giving your favorite skeleton recruit some Toughness training by having them facetank toothpicks for days

Maybe crab armor and/or junkbow if your training buddy is a meatball that can't insta-regen the damage

how do they work?
Yeah, that's the general thing to do. I just give everyone lovely junkbows, they still do a respectable amount of damage to say, beak things while one of your guys tanks them if you forget to swap them out, but in a big melee they won't really hurt your main dudes enough for it to matter.

Or rather, I made his dialogue non-function so you can't recruit him. I did it specifically to spite a friend of mine (snuck it into his game files named something else).

it didn't take him long to realize it was me loving with him. not long before that I did the same thing but jacked up the spawn rate of blood spiders 8x. It wasn't as funny though since he had that other mod that fixes their melee attack to not be super long distance for no reason so they were actually kind of okay to kill lol

They actually fixed the blood spider distance issue a few patches ago.

On the subject of crossbows, in Mongrel there are several overlooks where fogmen will patrol through valleys below you. Great for target practice. They need to try to rush through the gates to get to you and the guards will take them out. Then collect heads for easy $$.

Also you can REALLY piss them off and get yourself a neat massive assault to watch as they overwhelm and eat the defenders to get out your annoying rear end.

Been trying some of that Genesis mod. It's kind of cool, but it feels like there's been little effort to retain a unified feel either with the vanilla content or different parts of the mod, and it's buggy as poo poo. The Hemp Biofuel research just doesn't exist, for example. Uninstalled it. It's a shame, but ah, well, I'll do fine getting piece meal.

Babe Magnet
Jun 2, 2008

Yeah that's one of the big reasons I've avoided big overhaul mods in like any game I play. It's way too "kitchen sink" but some people like that I guess. Plus I like having control over what parts of my big mod list I do and don't want to use, and I have an issue a lot of the time it's something I can go in and fix myself easily, but with huge mod compilations like Genesis it can be toucg finding the source of a problem.

It's a shame too because there's more than a few mods that got abandoned in order to be absolved into Genesis like the Ascalon Isles mod, but they're so buggy and have too many outstanding issues to use the old versions.

I think I'm pretty far into the game, I'm starting to research AI core stuff, can craft specialist plate armor consistently and so forth, but training up new recruits is still a pain. I've been getting a few escaped slaves with decent starting stats when saving them from the fogman. Is there any way I could engineer this for NPCs or do they spawn with a "will join" modifier?

I think you can save scum it, I think it's a roll done when they get far enough. If they've triggered a run away AI response I think that's the point it's rolled.

The best hands off training is either dropping bar recruits off for day care with slavers and springing them when their stats are better or just giving them some poo poo weapons and armor and let them ride along with your adventure team, peeling them off the ground and giving them better limbs as it tends to happen.

I was more thinking on the line of: Can I drop an NPC in front of the fogman, let them chew a bit and then trigger the join dialogue? Probably not.

Oh, no. Someone deep in the editor can confirm but I think they spawn with a specific I'm in trouble script that isn't just started because a fogman took a nibble.
