quote:

THE REAL INSURRECTION WAS NOVEMBER 3RD, 2020

Last year on this day I watched a large crowd of Trump supporters walk into the Capitol Dome. My reaction? I was happy to see it. After all, the presidential election had just been stolen by the Socialist Democrats for a demented stooge named Joe Biden and nothing was done about it. Why not directly show our representatives that we were angry?

As it turned out, the dome breach was arranged to happen by the Socialist Democrats and a corrupt FBI. Pelosi made sure the Capitol was left unprotected. Barriers were taken down. FBI agents were everywhere. One of their operatives, Ray Epps, repeatedly yelled at Trump supporters and urged them carry their protests inside the Capitol building itself. Later, those who entered the building were thrown into a Washington D.C. prison to suffer heinous conditions and solitary confinement without bail or trail. That’s what socialists such as Pelosi do—they punish their enemies with prison torture and gulags.

Pelosi’s hatred for Trump has long been obvious. She presided over impeachment proceedings based on zero evidence and she shamelessly tore up President Trump’s State Of The Union speech. Her goal now is to prevent Trump from running again. This is Biden’s goal too when he feigns anger about the protest. Biden promised to unite the country, but he’s a colossal liar. He’s done nothing but create deeper division. Joementia could pardon all involved, but he doesn’t want wounds to heal. He wants to salt those wounds.

The Socialist Democrats continue to make the January 6 ‘riot’ equal to 9-11 or Pearl Harbor, but it was only a protest and most Americans don’t see it as anything too momentous. Shame on those Republicans who are also calling it an ‘insurrection.’ There was no insurrection. Nobody was armed except for armed government operatives. One of them murdered Ashli Babbitt.

Now the January 6 Committee is threatening and harassing Trump supporters who weren’t even there. Mike Lindell for example. It looks like anyone who supported Trump can now be accused of being an ‘insurrectionist.’ Pelosi wants another impeachment of sorts. This time she’s going after millions of MAGA-minded Americans. She wants her revenge. When she’s finished she will leave her crime-addled, drug and feces-riddled San Francisco and move into her mansion on the coast of Florida (never mind climate change and rising seas) where she will luxuriate and spend her fortune amassed from years of crooked insider trading.

My sympathies go out to all the Trump supporters who are languishing in prison due to the election-stealing traitors who put them there.

A judge has ordered the New York Times to exercise prior restraint in publishing materials that originated with Project Veritas, the right-wing hidden-camera organization. Newspapers and First Amendment groups are understandably concerned, but it’s hard to take them seriously about press freedom when they ignore, underplay or outright smear WikiLeaks publisher Julian Assange, who is literally dying in a British prison awaiting extradition to the United States for espionage charges related to his journalism.

- Freedom of the press is important;
- Journalists should be extremely critical of their sources and do lots of vetting, otherwise they are complicit in disinformation.

Both things can be true at the same time.

Two more things that can be true at the same time:

- Assange is a sleaze and scumbag, and he's not a journalist in any sense of the term;
- Assange's detention is purely political and he should be freed at once.

It's not that difficult, Ted.

I know that 'They gets paid for this?!' is a pointless line of questioning (see also Rall, Ted, obviously) but at the same time there are very few cartoonists whose career baffles me on such a fundamental level as Branco. He's not just some hack plugging away for his local rag, he has, by my count, about half a dozen outlets that regularly publish his work. So much of his work is so terrible on such a fundamental level. The linework and the use of colour in particular always reminds me of the embarrassing early days in someone's DeviantArt gallery. He draws as if he has never made a sketch or picked up an eraser in his life. I know each artist is supposed to have their own distinct style, but his style is just ugly on such a fundamental level that I can't wrap my head around it. His message is always abhorrent at best, but it's also presented with the most clunky, unimaginative visual metaphors possible, even for political cartoonist standards.

Also, the label MAKER for the guy on the left was right there, you loving hack!

https://www.reuters.com/business/media-telecom/judge-orders-new-york-times-return-project-veritas-internal-memos-2021-12-24/

quote:

A New York state judge on Friday ordered the New York Times to return internal documents to the conservative activist group Project Veritas, a restriction the newspaper said violates decades of First Amendment protections.

In an unusual written ruling, Justice Charles Wood of the Westchester County Supreme Court directed the New York Times to return to Project Veritas any physical copies of legal memos prepared by one of the group's lawyers, and to destroy electronic versions.

Wood had entered a temporary order against the New York Times last month, drawing criticism from freedom of the press advocates. read more

Project Veritas, led by James O'Keefe, has used what critics view as misleading tactics like secret audio recording to expose what it describes as liberal media bias. The group is the subject of a Justice Department probe into its possible role in the theft of a diary from President Joe Biden's daughter, Ashley, pages of which were published on a right-wing website.

Project Veritas objected to a Nov. 11 Times article that drew from the legal memos and purported to reveal how the group worked with its lawyers to "gauge how far its deceptive reporting practices can go before running afoul of federal laws."

Wood said in Friday's ruling that the Project Veritas legal memos were not a matter of public concern and that the group has a right to keep them private that outweighs concerns about freedom of the press.

It's a hard world for little things.
In addition to be vaguely false in the sense that there's no indication that social safety nets discourage work, it's also specifically false in the sense that most blue states are disproportionately net payers (in that they pay more in federal tax dollars than they receive in federal spending) and red states are disproportionately net "takers" (in that they receive more in federal spending than they contribute in federal taxes).

Like the hardworking blue collar worker versus welfare queen stereotype is tangled up in a whole shitload of cultural baggage so it's a lot more complicated than that, but insofar as it touches reality at any point at all, Branco's imputed political associations are precisely backward. The notional Silicon Valley or Seattle manbun and avocado toast guy is, in aggregate, a net contributor to productivity and the hardhat-wearing West Virginia coal miner or whatever is not. Like it's a pernicious formulation regardless of how we want to label things--if society is producing surpluses and workers nevertheless aren't having their needs met then this can only be due to systemic inequality and not individual workers being insufficiently productive--but, you know, gently caress Branco is what I'm trying to say.
