Is Purple Gatherer’s/Crafter’s Scrip gear worth farming for, or is the lack of materia slots pretty much an automatic dealbreaker?

The lack of materia slots does hold them back from being as good as melded crafted gear, but they can be a good starting point if you don't want to spend the gil/broken materia out the gate. Also, every DoL/H class has unique gear, so if you like a look you might as well go for it.

Them being unique gear (for x.0 patches at least) is the worst part from a functional standpoint. You have to gear up 8 (or 3) times instead of once and it takes up more room.

Purple gear is good enough, you just won't be getting stuff like the Gatherer's Boon bonus on the 90** nodes. No getting around melding the crafted right-side gear though. Aside from the Botanist set I like the way they look too.

Facet crafter/gatherer gear came out in 5.1, right? I don't want to meld gear, then meld a whole new set just one major patch later. I mean I just got done pentamelding all my right side pieces, and that was painful enough. Spend a whole goddamn day crafting collectibles or spend 8 loving million gil on gems, fucks sake. Love seeing the text show up that I blew up 51 materia just getting 1 in.

So I've been kind of thinking that savage raiding is something I'd like to finally try out in endwalker, and my best friend might be interested in joining me. Pugging through party finder sounds like it'd be an absolutely miserable experience though, how does one go about finding a static (that isn't filled with shitheads)? I know I've seen people looking for them in party finder, and I saw a subreddit dedicated to it, but I figured I'd ask how you all would recommend going about it. I'm sure the fact that I'm in love with playing reaper will really not be doing me any favors.

i found my current static in party finder, and i love them. i also found my previous static in party finder, and i hate them. so 50/50 success rate there

my actual recommendation would be to cast a wide net when you start looking in earnest. Most statics will have a night to try you out and introduce you to the group, and it's okay to decide not to go forward with a group if you find them grating or unpleasant in that time. so party finder, reddit, random FC shouts in limsa or radz at han, I doubt any of them is going to be particularly better or worse for finding other players, you just have to bite the bullet and have standards for whatever group you do end up joining

Party Finder really isn't that bad. Some groups will be insistent on weird strats and some will disband after two wipes but so long as you look for learning parties it'll be fine. You aren't gonna run into dudes who yell heinous poo poo because your DPS is 3% below par. The worst that happens really is guys silently DC'ing.

I haven't looked at joining a static myself, but I have heard a few people had some luck with the official Community Finder. It's a source outside the game, but it's got a bunch of filter options and is fairly active, so it might be worth doing a quick check there.

If it's the same as Shadowbringers, then Facet for crafters left/right and gatherers left only will come out in 6.1, yes.

Gatherer won't get a right-side upgrade until 6.3, meaning pentaing your current white gatherer right-side gear is a very sound investment.

Yeah, you should high tier meld it. I'm still using aesthete accessories and I only need 1/2 HQ mats to guarantee an HQ classical craft. If you're going to invest in pentamelding you might as well invest in something that'll last.

I believe in melding just enough materia to accomplish what you want to do, and save the pentamelding for if they do another event or long questline requiring doing expert crafts. It is incredibly nice to have a fully pentamelded set of the best gear possible, but the effort to get there is expensive and/or time consuming and should only be attempted if you are really into crafting to the point that you're going to be doing tons and tons of it.

Vitamean

I pentamelded my crafter left side but I did it in a way where the last few melds were, like, Control IVs and Vs so I could barely cross the requirement to craft new stuff on my specs.

TGLT
Aug 14, 2009
Yeah like none of my main or secondary tools have materia in them, and the only thing I have pentamelded that isn't asthete is the gloves. Everything else just has the two slots filled, then I have one overmelded materia in the hat, slightly overmelded boots, and I did actually swap one aesthete's out for a mostly pentamelded integral ring. I'll have plenty of time to fill it out for 6.1.

Meanwhile I'm over here wondering if it's worth it to overmeld 9s and 10s into my tools so I can do a 19-action macro instead of a 23 action macro.

That's 12 seconds per craft!!!

You can do the entry level stuff with it. Stuff that will let you get some purple scrips to buy the 570 blue set, if you don't have the Gil for the crafted set (or don't want to shell out for it).

Orange is one of my least favorite colors, but thankfully the set dyes really well, and I'm fine with orange as an accent. The only thing I'm looking to change down the road is the boots. They look a bit out of place without the hood.

The armor is all Marsh Green and the hatchet is (fittingly, though not intentionally) Bark Brown dye.

the subreddit was mentioned, and so was checking PF for recruitment ads, but i also wanted to mention the recruitment channels in the Balance discord. it tends to be really populated in there so there's lots of statics to pick from, and it's where i found my current long-term static.

a couple things i will mention, for someone being new to raiding:
- this is going to be hard, but try to envision what your goals are. clear the tier eventually? clear at all? just ducking in once a week for some fun? even among casual players, there are varying shades of "casual"/"tryhard"/etc, and if any of the eight players have different expectations it can pretty quickly breed resentment among them. try to pick a team that meets your goals as much as possible, otherwise the experience can be pretty frustrating. it's important to prioritize yourself-- don't bend goals/wants for the sake of a static. find something that suits your needs.
- probably easier among casual statics, but it can be a bit harder finding a static willing to take people as a package deal (ex: "i will come, but my friend has to come with me"). not impossible at all, just something to keep in mind
- you're right wanting to play reaper is absolutely not doing you any favors lol

You'd need tighter rotations since the handsaint is painfully lacking in CP, but yeah, it should be doable.

Yes, even the old landsaint stuff is good enough to craft the new crafter gear (you might need HQ ingredients to guarantee HQ though).

It's only the new 90** stuff (ie the ilvl580 combat gear and associated food) that needs a big investment.

yeah, with PF you gain so much more flexibility to play whenever you want with whoever you want and try to clear at your own pace. though, it comes at the cost of consistency since you'll never have the same team twice

for Just Starting Out in savage it's honestly not a bad idea at all to just hop in some practice first floor runs and see how it goes, see if it's even something you want to pursue before committing yourself to a team
