Oh, that room. I thought it might be that room, but then figured you meant one of the prison cells.

If you try to get out (and inevitably fail) something like three or four times in a row, eventually someone notices and shouts instructions at you through the wall.

I wasn't expecting that room to redirect a COC, though. That's impressive.

Since you're familiar with the mod: are there actual sorters for potions or scrolls in the secret lab, or is it just "here's racks and load it all by hand"

Autosorts, at least, with vanilla stuff. Mod stuff should be sortable with lua, I dont remember if it got an update for that

Where do I put the stuff TO sort, then? I don't have much if any mod potions. All I see are individually labelled bottles for the different kinds, no button or chest to interact with to deposit things (in contrast to the alchemy ingredient table).

For auto-sorters, I don't actually remember. I think I remember not being sure as well, when I was playing it. Mostly, I just shoved several tons worth of ingredients (maybe not an exaggeration) into the alchemy desk and using the bottomless bag as a teleport method. I feel like maybe there are sorters, and I just never used them much, because I got into a rhythm before I figured out how to use them.

So: When you've first loaded a save, before you can use the bottomless bag as a container, the game needs to load the secret lab cell, to check the container back in the lab. Which you do, in-game, by ... briefly visiting your lab, through the bag? So I got into the habit, anytime I needed to go back quickly and didn't want to bother with setting a Mark back to my current location, of quicksaving and quickloading, dropping the bag on the ground, and crawling through into my lab.

I also edited the bag to hold, I don't know, ten thousand weight units, not 100 or whatever is normally appropriate for a bag.

This video seems to do a good job. The hard part is port forwarding, but if you've ever set up a server for like terraria or something it's the same process. For mods anything with an esp has to be the same on all clients, I just zip my morrowind folder as is and send it to my friend

That much took about thirty seconds of Googling.

To be honest though I expected it to be a lot more complex than that, but that guide seems pretty concise. Maybe... maybe I'll give it a shot too :ohdear: Then again I also already have a decent-ish amount of experience with OpenMW after setting it up recently for a single player run, so maybe start with a simple "what is OpenMW and why should I care?" video first.

I had an epiphany recently. I was struck by how tamriel rebuilt's quests subconsciously reminded me of Oblivion instead of Morrowind's and I wasn't sure why. Then it hit me.

Almost every quest in Morrowind has a degree of dramatic irony where the quest giver is using you. Not just giving quests that serve their interests, but manipulating and deceiving you.

Ajira and her reports blatantly taking credit for your work are the most obvious example, but ranis' quests all being her running the guild as a back door protection racket is a lot more subtle, having you kill "necromancers" and shake down locals.

So is skink-in-tree's-shade being a vampire in hiding.

And with telvanni, it's pretty clear that aryon is taking over the council using you as a patsy.

First think about the name. Argonians all seem to have names related to what they do. What does skink do? Stand in the shade?

Second, what are multiple of his quests about? Getting books and secret documents about curing vampirism?

I harbor a theory that both meeting the wise woman and escorting that one lady out of town have ulterior motives too, but can't prove it.

Another thing about Skin in Tree's Shade from the latest rumours from Telvanni:

"Of course, most Mages Guild wizards are pathetic clowns. But I must admit, that lizard that goes by the barbarous title of 'Skink-in-Tree's-Shade' is a very astute practitioner, almost as sage and learned as Telvanni aspirants five times his age."

And that's exactly the brilliance of the quest writing that hit me. There's subtle hints here and there that change how you interpret what you're doing.

You can do everything without questioning anyone's motives, and it works as fantasy schlock, go here, kill this bad guy, persuade this person to do things our way, collect this item. It's all fine like that. But you can realize, for a great many cases, that there's another interpretation.

Question about this, after hearing that the Skyrim multiplayer mod is unstable, I’m thinking about trying out TES3MW with my casual gamer wife and ADHD ten year old son. Does this sound like a terrible idea? I like the idea of being able to do both quests and open world loving around as a family.

I’ve never played an Elder Scrolls game, or really had much experience with CRPG’s, though I’ve played a ton of other games including some JRPG’s when I was younger. And of course I’m familiar with Elder Scrolls by reputation.

You should play an hour or so of Morrowind single-player first just to try it out yourself, since you know your wife and son better than anyone. Honestly I'd be skeptical of doing it as a family activity though.

Ten year old me would have hated Morrowind, and I'm sure an alternate-reality ADHD version of 10 year old me would have hated it even more. It's a lot of reading and immersion and political themes, very dated combat that tries to wed action with dice rolls, a convoluted skill system, and a snail's pace movement speed compared to more modern games.

ESO as a family wouldn't be an awful idea, but of course then you're exposing your 10 year old to an MMO.

Lunchmeat Larry

Yeah your son will either hate it or become obsessed, no middle ground there. I was a 12 year old with undiagnosed ADHD when I bought it and it became a fixture of my personality, which is probably a terrible thing to have happened

To be fair, 16 year old me had a hate/love relationship with the game too. Until I was like 20, I had some kind of weird hang-up about first person games and getting WAY too attached to my character surviving. Like, the road between Seyda Neen and Balmora was pretty terrifying to me (because wilderness and who knows what evil is lurking out there that could kill my dude). Pretty sure I hung out in Fort Pelegiad for like four in-game days before moving on to Balmora because I needed my character to feel safe or something.

I'm glad I got less weird over time. :v:
