I was gonna get the exhaust finished, but got a case of the ole rona yesterday. So, I got everything unboxed and ready to go until I get past the worst of it. Quick question for the thread: Leave these natural, or blast them and get them cerakoted flat black? The supercharger (and bracket) is flat black, as well as the intake plumbing. The coil covers are black/red, so I've been leaning toward black, but I do appreciate the nice stainless headers.

car tax can be crazy in Australia so it would probably be even cheaper in America... if you weren't stuck with the hyundai "scion TC" velostar. GTIs start at around 43800 USD and you can't even get them manual anymore, for comparison

Since my older son is about to get his license and I didn’t really want to have him driving a janky old R53 Mini around that’s been giving us more and more issues, I decided to give him my ‘15 Fit and trade the R53 on an R60 Countryman S. It’s for sure a goddamn goofy-rear end dad-mobile, but I enjoy the color, the interior space, and the turbo engine, not to mention the interior isn’t falling apart on the R60 Old vs new 2012 BRG Countryman S 6MT

Crosspost from the other thread: Replaced the worn out 33” A/Ts with some 235/75 Blizzaks. Wow these old cars perform much better with the stock sizes. I might need to upgrade the power steering pump before summer when I take it wheeling here in Colorado with another set of 33s.

It's boring. Utility-utes, vehicles bought new by tradies to carry stuff from Bunnings to the client and tow the boat on weekends are always, always white. We came up with a fairly narrow list of requirements, and hoped for something in a colour to show up. Not much is out there, tomorrow we're going to go see a Holden Colorado that ticks the important boxes but not the one about colour. Oh well. Sooner or later we'll buy a crate of plasti-dip and upgrade whatever ute we end up buying.

My 2007 BMW 320d automatic, bought in 2013 and still daily driven with 150,000+ miles on it. Lots of sport equipment, but not a single M badge anywhere. A little worse for wear since the photo was taken in its glory days, and I've had to replace two turbos and an ECU, but it's just such a versatile daily that I can't find a reason to get rid of it. Bought just yesterday, a 1999 Honda Accord Type R. I've wanted one since they came out, and since it was a neighbor selling this I just had to jump on the opportunity. Don't know much about it since it was impossibe to get a straight answer about anything from the guy selling it, but I got it at a price where I can live with that. I got to drive it for all of one hour before the check engine light came on, but a good old ELM327 adapter let me know it was just an O2 sensor. It also has the most ridiculous exhaust with tons of noise in the midrange where absolutely nothing happens, and then silence when it enters VTEC! Oh, and the OEM wheels have studded winter tires on them, which are getting replaced with Michelin PilotSports this week! It's gonna be a fun moneysink this summer!

"I did something stupid" - I bought a V6 ute with 170 kg of extra weight on the back end and drove it up from the coast the day petrol prices shot past $2/L. Our new-to-us ute. by ExecuDork, on Flickr Our new-to-us ute. by ExecuDork, on Flickr Our new-to-us ute. by ExecuDork, on Flickr 2004 Holden Rodeo with the 3.5L V6 and 290 000 km. We're going to name it "Matilda", probably. Names for cars are always provisional until they feel right, of course. My wife and I found this on Gumtree about 3 weeks ago and made arrangements to go down to test drive it a couple of weekends ago, and we decided to buy it right then. That trip coincided with some of the worst weather to hit the east coast of Australia in a long time. Long stupid story of stupidity short, we couldn't drive home because the ute was behaving very poorly - surging and stalling, not consistently but at seemingly random times. Losing power in the middle of a roundabout off the highway at 60 km/h scared the poo poo out of my wife, and the torrential rain and darkness didn't help any. We'd bought it from a little independent dealer selling mostly through Gumtree, and he turned out to be an excellent person. We dropped it off at his place and went home, and he had his mechanic check it out - and they diagnosed a stretched timing belt. The service records said it had last been done at 210 000 km so we should have been good for another 20 000 km. That explained the symptoms - terrible fuel efficiency (3/4 of tank burned over 250 km of flat highway) in addition to the surging and stalling - and the seller paid for our new timing belt, saving us around $1000 and the risk of something bad happening climbing up the 375 km and more than 1000 m elevation gain to get home. The party trick for this ute is the tail lift. We found the owners manual and the seller went over the operation of it when we bought it but we haven't actually tried it yet. I'm itching for something big and heavy to pick up, the load limit is 500 kg (and the max load for the ute is a tonne). This will save wear on the Saab. I've learned my lesson, while it's fun for a while and seems to work that way, a convertible is not a ute. EDIT: annoyingly, I cannot find a DIY manual for this car. Haynes/Chilton skipped the RA chassis, 2003-2008 and nobody else even tried to publish a book for this vehicle. I can find 6000-page PDF shop manuals but I'd rather have something that does not assume I have access to a lift and pneumatic tools. I thought those used the Commodore engine (which would have a timing chain rather than a belt) but I guess that didn't come until later. Probably better to have a belt than those stretchy chains they used in the Alloytech anyway.
