Does anyone know how I could buff this deck up for Pioneer while keeping the same theme?

https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/15-04-21-eternal-harvest/

I love the combination of sagas, milling, and creatures with enter-the-battlefield effects, plus the stuff that brings stuff back from your graveyard, and the land advantage. It's just fun to play.

The writing is on the card. What would be the point otherwise?

Amano just happened to be hosting a panel at NYCC the year the Spark came out. His handler was kind of a dick, but he was able to squeeze away after the panel to sign some stuff.

I'm not sure, honestly. I mean, it's worth more than a non-signed one, but still not sure it's worth more than a foil one despite there being fewer in existence. :v:

There was some law weirdness where the age requirement for paper events was 13 years old, but for online events in was 18 because of some gambling laws? I don't fully remember the details, but that's what happened to Abram, former co-host of the Limited Level-Ups, where he earned a PTQ for a paper tournament but when pandemic shifted everything online he couldn't participate (or it was when they went to MPL? I forget!)

I'm pretty sure I've competitions give scholarships instead of cash prizes if the winner happens to be a minor, so I think you're on to something here. Wizards probably isn't set up to / doesn't want to go through the effort of setting up an alternative prizing structure.

Hearthstone allows minors to compete for cash prizes, as long as a parent or guardian is involved and signs the necessary legal forms.

What this ultimately comes down to is Wizards not wanting to put forward any effort at all to accommodate people.

WotC is absolutely terrified of getting Magic lumped in with gambling either in the game itself or getting buying a pack associated with buying a scratch off. I dont remember if it was Belgium or The Netherlands but they stopped having official events there completely because of it. There's a few other countries where they won't offer cash prizes but offer prize tickets that be exchanged like some grimy arcade.

You'll notice they really amped up the 'booster fun' language within the last year or two as pressure mounts to label stuff like loot boxes as gambling.

If they wanted to not be called gambling they could just not be gambling, but I guess that’s what Secret Lairs are for.

If getting rid of predatory gambling targeted towards children will kill magic then magic does not deserve to live.

There are a whole lot of smart people with a whole lot of money behind them working at Wizards, if they truly cannot figure out a way to make an extremely popular game continue to thrive without exploitative practices then there's a serious problem.

Probably see more cubes, secret lairs, etc. Like would Limited be really different if each box of draft boosters was guaranteed to contain a complete set of commons and uncommons and x/y rares and mythic rares, just in randomized order for drafting? That’s a possible defense for draft boosters, that they’re game pieces randomized by necessity and other booster options exist that aren’t lottery tickets the same way.

Like, if you don’t think the gambling aspect of boosters hasn’t been a major factor in the financial success of MTG/YGO/Pokémon/etc, I don’t know what to tell you. Moralizing about it just gives you a dead game.

if card distribution is static then you've killed the largest way draft and sealed function, and if it's randomized enough and spread out enough to preserve the feeling of limited changing every time you sit down then it's too random for it to not be gambling when you open a single booster in the way people want dead

like, can you imagine wotc announcing 'hey, for the future if you want to do a draft you need to buy this cube of literally the entire set instead of a few packs now. please forget about how you used to be able to draft multiples while you pray that this session they pulled the green cards out of the box'

They could reasonably sell both fullsets and draft boosters, and explicitly tag the draft boosters as "buy these if you want to play Limited".

They even already print fullsets, you just can't get them unless you've assembled a complete set from MTGO draft boosters.

People want to be able to get cards without buying boosters, or buying them off the secondary market from someone who bought boosters.

You jest but Nevada law requires "gambling help" info on nearly all casino/gambling advertisements, so it's not like it'd be without precedent.
