The news of the Activision/Blizzard buyout has me thinking about how a decade ago Blizzard announced they would implement a "real ID" system that would basically expose everyone's real names to each other on the WoW forums. They rescinded the plan 3 days later when some neckbeard called one of the devs at his office number to assure him he wouldn't share his personal info, but that his first+last name was enough to find what school his kids attended and this was a horrible amount of risk to put the userbase in

The logic was that forcing everyone to use their first and last names on the Blizzard forums would help combat toxicity. You know, like facebook!

You know, like facebook! i think this was because south korean law requires your internet name to be linked to your irl social security number so bnet had to follow those requirements, which gave some higher up moron at blizz a great idea. south korea also banning porno is probably why mercy has a giant fat rear end, so it's a wash imo.
