veni veni veni posted:The big guy at the end of the ice chapter of gears is legit one of the worst boss fights I have done in as long as I can remember. Wtf where they thinking making a boss that takes like 15 minutes to kill and then making every one of his attacks a 1 hit kill? Ive died like 10 times on this because at some point there is always a bad camera angle or ice pillar that prevents me from rolling out of the way and I have to start the entire thing over. This fight made me so mad I quit the game. Then months later I came back and played it again up that point. It took like an hour but I finally played around its one hit kill while you cannot see it coming through screen effects bullshit but not before I raged so hard that I tweeted at Coalition about how awful that fight was lol Like I enjoy Souls games, I understand the value of difficulty, that Matriarch fight just sucks rear end

It’s not like activision was the picture of creative freedom and employee health, them closing and selling off IPs would have been ideal but being bought out isn’t worse than continuing to exist as they currently are

My brother who is a Sony fanboy is super pissy about the acquisition. He thinks it’s wrong for Microsoft to build a monopoly but somehow ignores Sonys studio shopping spree. I just now need to play through Diablo 2 and Spyro trilogy before they hit gamepass so I won’t have wasted the money.

It's never really a good sign when everything starts getting bought up, but there is a bit of a difference between Sony buying Housemarque composed of 80 people and whom they've worked with for decades, or even MS buying Zenimax for that matter, ...and an acquisition on the level of Disney buying Marvel or Fox or whatever. Acti has like 10,000 employees, that's like 25 divisions of Insomniac lol. But hey, antitrust laws pretty much don't exist anymore so it's kind of pointless to pretend there are even rules for this sort of thing. That said, cheerleading this kind of a behavior from any corporation is backwards, and none of it spells good things for people who buy games, much less people who makes them.

I still can't wrap my head around the Star Wars franchise in it's entirety being worth 4 billion dollars and a company like activision being bought for 70 billion. poo poo, even minecraft was bought for 2 billion, like 7 years ago. That's half of Star Wars and it's one game made by basically one guy in his basement. The money getting thrown around in the game industry is hard to comprehend.

You don't acquire a business because of what it is by itself, but rather on what you think it can help you transform the new business.

It's a hustle of mind boggling proportions, befitting its casino money origins. They consistently have -50% tax rate and get like hundreds of millions in tax rebates per year, receive huge public subsidies, are on the receiving end of enormous state dept and military contracts, etc. It's kind of no wonder that they were one of the first huge gaming corps to make significant investments into casino game research and how it could be applied to predict player microtransaction behavior.

Traditionally the answer would be that of course their big Activision games would not come out on PS anymore, but with Microsoft it's genuinely up in the air. Oh I mean yeah, they'll definitely be game passing it up big time which just makes game pass seem more attractive than it already was. If I had to bet, I would bet on a lot of Activision games becoming Xbox exclusives in the future, probably not immediately in 2023 but shortly afterwards. But maybe things like Warzone will remain multi-platform? Who knows! In any case Game Pass stays winning.
