Nah, Veep was considered one of the most accurate portrayals of DC politics from the jump. Then when after 2016 happened (and Iannucci left) they tried and failed to match what was happening in reality. Now it’s weirdly on point again.

Yeah I remember there were some DC beltway people at the time who basically said that House of Cards is what they wish it’s like but Veep is the reality

I couldn't even get passed the first episode of House of Cards because the candidate murders someone right the gently caress away it's portrayed as though it's something that happens all the time. How am I supposed to take the rest of this show seriously?

And that's one of the GOOD seasons.

Christ that show got awful. The British one had it right; three short seasons and you go out in an explosive way.

In 3:10 to Yuma, Russel Crowe's character Ben Wade talks about green eyes and how much he loves them several times in the first half of the movie, and both his nemesis Dan Evans (Christian Bale) and the second-in-command of his gang Charlie Prince (Ben Foster) have green eyes.

Watching the first episode of Loki again (NOT A MOVIE OH LAWD). When he walks into a room they demand he grabs a deli style ticket before he has to go through a turnstile before getting into a complicated stanchion maze.

This was designed by someone who has worked at theme parks. It's every common solution for managing a queue in one.

IUG
Jul 14, 2007

No it’s not. I worked at a theme park for five years and have been to Disney in the last few years. No one does deli tickets.

If they gave him an offer for a fast pass to skip the line, then it would have been a reference.

It’s a joke on over complicated bureaucracy. The Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy movie did the same joke.

The director of the Loki series has mentioned in interviews that Terry Gilliams' movie Brazil was a big influence

The Wachowski's movie Jupiter Ascending had a similar 'crazy bureaucracy' scene that was very obviously influenced by Brazil which even had a cameo appearance by Terry Gilliam to really drive home the point :v:

I dunno but I promise you it's not a reference to amusement parks. Anyone older than 35 immediately thinks of a bank lobby or DMV or social security office or some horribly banal place like that when they see a scene like that. Not Six Flags.

I found it worked pretty well as a book, the movie is utterly graceless though, in addition to being possibly the worst-cast film in history. Everyone in it is awful.

A post about the new Jack Reacher streaming series reminded me of something that just came out of left field from the first Tom Cruise movie. There's a scene where he's casing this crook's house, and two mooks jump him in the bathroom

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SE0oDPBslUs

It's a really slapstick fight, especially for an Overcast 2010s Thriller. And then you realize that one mook is bald, one's got curly red hair, and Tom's got his usual short dark cut.

The movie has been invaded by the Three Stooges, with Tom Cruise as Moe. A lot of the classics are there: the jammed-up door, the accidental face bonk, an eye gouge (no Curly block, sadly, that would have given away the joke), Moe clunking the other two's heads together. Only thing missing is Curly knocking everyone over by turning around while holding a ladder.
