It also depends on who you poll.
Why wouldn't people in China be happy, especially in a survey past 2019? Sure, in a country where the range of acceptable criticism of the government is more narrow, people are less likely to poll negatively. But even taking that into account, consider that for the majority population in China material conditions are improving, often for people where this is a primary need, and the covid response has been better than anywhere else. Heck, if you are willing to move to certain regions you'll get a free house, a bed, and a Muslim wife for free. What's not to like... If you'd manage to poll Uyghurs who aren't held at the edge of a knife, say refugees, numbers are different, unsurprisingly.

I hate to talk poo poo in another thread but if I did this in d&d, I'd have to eat another probe.

is this guy out of his loving mind? he thinks the govt in china has the ability to forcibly marry off women who don't want to be? like they really think uyghers aren't people, is there anyone who wouldn't rise up in the face of such injustice? I seriously dunno how they think society works here in china, but the level of ignorance really blows my mind. I feel like you can just say anything about china, ignoring all logic, and people will just accept it.

yeah that article is nuts. I especially love the quote from the eurasia group (doesnt sound evil at all) about how china went from the best to the worst response to covid. record numbers of infections, thousands of deaths in the west. hospitals and public health systems collapsing. but china is definately the worst. As a beijing resident, I admit some of the poo poo lately has been annoying, but I'm so thankful to the govt for keeping me safe. much better than the western stratagy of letting it rip.

Like lol capitalists will not prefer to support domestic rather than foreign industry, actually. So they do not, as if led by an invisible hand, promote the public interest of their society.

Not quite. The civilizing mission was more justified by Christianity. Early liberalism was very selective in its interests regarding who was entitled to liberal rights, to the point many didn't see any problem with slavery. In fact it was common to think of slavery as a means for a man (the master) to become truly liberated. Early liberals weren't even particularly bothered if they had a king, so long as the crown sat on an enlightened despot. Even French revolutionaries had to be dragged against their will to accepting republicanism because Louis could not cut it out with the treason.
liberalism is also wrapped up in freedom from intervention, so "a slave with a kind master may not be unfree in the liberal sense, as long as their master doesn’t actively interfere with their pursuits."

North Korea isn't currently short half it's territory and being flooded with weapons and Nazis by two world powers so that sounds like a win.

The lesson everyone keeps learning is that if you have nukes never give them up and if you don't have nukes get nukes.
