Your solution appears to require a competent and uncorrupt government despite being prompted by a story of incompetent and corrupt government.

flakeloaf posted:Remember paying a small fine every time you bought a CD, to compensate the recording industry for the music you might copy onto it The best part is that Alberta does do this for oil wells. In theory. The problem is that the amount they have withheld is about 500X too little to actually clean up all the wells. https://thetyee.ca/Analysis/2019/12/16/Alberta-Poison-Wells-File/ quote:In a 2018 presentation, Robert Wadsworth, vice-president of closure and liability for the scandal-plagued Alberta Energy Regulator, estimated that the cleanup liability for the province’s 400,000 oil and gas wells was likely at least $100 billion. Pipelines, he added, represented another $30 billion unfunded liability. Edit: and that's just local cleanup. I don't even know what it would amount to if you tried to put a number on the fractional contribution of Alberta's oil wells to global climate catastrophe. Probably a lot. They're saying a lot of things, some of which should at least be investigated as hate speech, and at the very least the platforms they're using to spread this stuff should be enforcing their own ToS. That said, this looks a lot less like any kind of mass movement and more like maybe a dozen people who are just screaming very loudly in the internet and streaming their road trip.

There were a lot of people out in Toronto on Saturday for an anti-vax protest too. I was referring to the cross country road trip people specifically, since that's what was in the tweet you posted. Obviously that's anti-vax, but IDK how coherent any of it is as a movement. I've yet to see any indication that the convoy protest specifically has numbers beyond the few regularly identifiable people who are streaming it. infernal machines fucked around with this message at 00:12 on Jan 26, 2022 |

Just a thought. I wonder how many of those ratty rear end farm trucks in the convoy got permits for inter provincial travel. When I was a trucker I only had a provincial safety fitness certificate which meant I also only had to abide by the provincial regulations. We needed single trip permits to go into Saskatchewan or BC. https://www.sgi.sk.ca/outofprovincecarriers BC includes farm registered vehicles in the requirement, not sure if Saskatchewan does. I don’t think farmers even need to run log books but if they’re crossing provincial borders they absolutely do. Driving cross country they would also absolutely have to follow the federal hours of service. The DOT officers could be making mad bank off of this. The scale houses here at least all have plate readers. There would be nothing sweeter than these loving yokels coming home to a letter from transport Canada that their plates were pinged across the country and they now have to wire ELDs into their trucks but I don’t think there is that level of coordination yet.

Not unless they registered the truck on personal plates before they left. It’s a commercial truck registered for weight. They are also presumably being compensated from the gofundme. Being paid to haul the massive weight of their terrible ideology across the country. That is assuming anybody but the organizer ever sees a dime.

I think it's really, really cool how anti-vaxxers and the FluTruxKlan and their ilk are pushing normal people to hate them with burning passion.
