The correct answer for a national day of reconciliation and patriotism is June 3, Mabo Day https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mabo_Day "A public holiday would be a celebration all Australians can share in with pride – a celebration of truth that unites Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians and a celebration of justice that overturned the legal myth of terra nullius - Mabo symbolises truth and justice and is a cornerstone of Reconciliation."

It should be celebrated and be an entirely separate public holiday. When we throw off the shackles of our colonial past and become a republic we can celebrate that day. Until then Australia day can be January first, the day of federation. Just let everyone take the day off whenever the gently caress they want. January 26 should be observed like remembrance day but not celebrated.

I dunno I'm not a great fish dad, my other bottom feeder just hides in her log and never comes out. I forget she's there mostly. My water is nasty and the only reason I haven't changed it is because I accidentally soaked some clothes with bleach in the bucket I use for fish tank draining and refilling and I keep rinsing it out because I'm worried it'll kill them

It's been hanging around for a while now and after asking around at least 3 other neighbours have been feeding it worms and mince and wombaroo mix (I have been sharing mine around). So it's not in danger of starving. I've seen it foraging in my backyard for bugs so it has some idea of how to hunt.

You've probably made a life-long friend there provided it doesn't get chased out of the area.

Oh I have a huge soft spot for birds so I'm looking out for it, but luckily it seems pretty happy, perhaps being a bit lonely. It hangs out in a tree near my house and sings in the morning so for the moment it seems content to be here despite the protestations of the other local swoopies

As far as impending extinction movies go, I thought the TV remake of On The Beach managed to capture the despair and drama much better, though I have yet to see the original 1959 movie. On a similar token, but much more a bizarre wildcard approach to the genre, The Quiet Earth is still one of my favorites, Highly recommended.

I really liked the start of These Final Hours but yeah the plot fell away pretty quick (like the party house with the massive, armageddon ready bunker) and the textbook Aussie CGI at the end was super cringe but overall I thought it was a different look at the way the end of the world might play out than the usual american hero-story so I liked it. I watched it immediately after Dont Look Up so maybe thats why i thought it was OK.

Yeah the last minute was unnecessary. Kinda how I feel about Last Train To Freo, drat tense as the whole time and just doesn't pay off with what's obviously an overdramatic theatre performance. It was lifted from a stage play so go figure. The plot twist was a bit contrived too, but Steve Le Marquand is loving excellent and terrifying in it the whole time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8cWPxC51bbc Maximum Sexy Pigeon fucked around with this message at 05:20 on Jan 27, 2022 |
