It is cold as balls outside tonight and not much to do so I am only kind of watching the Flyers play so I've got the Smith Jr./Geffrard fight on my laptop and realizing that I'm happy the NHL moved to ESPN+ because having this makes it so much easier to tune into fights, even if they're not the most interesting undercards/main cards

I like Joe Smith. He’s like a rich man’s Peter Manfredo. Still think Beterbiev batters him, but let’s make the fight.

Shakur Stevenson and Oscar Valdez are in negotiations to fight. Biggest fight that can be made at 130.

Kovalev’s coming back to fight Meng Fanlong, a guy who had a fight against Beterbiev cancelled like 6 times and who I can’t think of without remembering the time Ninth said something like “Meng Fanlong? More like... uh... may not last long!” which is both the stupidest and the funniest nicknames I’ve ever heard.

Tony Yoka's contract to fight Martin Bakole is now preventing him from fighting Filip Hrgovic for the IBF mandatory position, so we are likely now going to get Hrgovic vs Agit Kabayel for the spot, lol.

Gary Russell is fighting tonight, his one fight he takes per year. Russell struggled to make weight, is coming into the fight claiming an injury, and has been going through some personal issues, so could be an interesting one.

Magsayo v ceja was a good fight. I think magsayo gets hit too much tho. I think russel takes this one.

He doesn’t really say he is fighting Usyk either. Just that he hasn’t signed a contract, and h makes calculated decisions every step of the way. Makes it seem like they were at least considering it.

My guess is they were taking about it and somebody jumped the gun on leaking it. We’ll see though.

Sergio "Maravilla" Martinez fought today, picking up his 4th win in a row since coming back recently. He wants a title shot at middleweight but also says he knows he's just one loss away from retiring again. I haven't seen him back in action yet but the reports aren't great. On one hand I don't want to see him get hurt but on the other hand I don't blame him for trying to get paid against some easy touches while he still can. He was champ for a good length of time but really only got 2 big paydays in Chavez Jr. and Cotto.

Just have him fight GGG so both can be put out of their misery and then (if we make it to Vegas for Stevenson-Valdez the next day) watch the biggest fight in women's history

I assume that Fury will try to replicate his performance in Chisora II. He's a bit older now, though he still has to be a heavy favorite.

"Patel"? Fuck you.
I didn't catch the fight, but Ilunga Makabu apparently got a gift in his rematch against Thabisu Mchunu, so the Canelo to cruiserweight dream is still theoretically alive.

I'd still be very surprised if Canelo takes that fight next. Makabu is a nobody even amongst hardcore boxing fans and Canelo would have to gain 20+ pounds for the fight, and then immediately drop the weight. He may never be able to get back down to 168 properly if he does take that fight, and boxing is littered with examples of guys moving up in weight and then looking completely washed when they drop back down (Chris Byrd, Roy Jones, Chad Dawson, Oscar de la Hoya, etc.).

Plus, Canelo is still young and has plenty of time to cherry pick a cruiserweight title, which is a division that almost always has a weak link paper titlist or two.

Dmitry Bivol or Jermall Charlo are far more realistic options for Canelo's next opponent.

Ruiz and Kabayel have declined as well.

For those counting, 8 fighters have now rejected (or been stopped from accepting) a fight with Hrgovic for the IBF eliminator. This man really is the most avoided heavyweight atm.
