Any word from the list is as likely as any other to be the word of the day. Where it matters is narrowing down that field, and once you have a few letters the standard distribution is out the window anyway as consonant combinations become more important to eliminate.

It is, but just colored boxes is a good way to see how difficult the word was overall. I mean sometimes no matter how good you are it's just going to take most of your guesses. I haven't failed one but I've been backed against a wall and known there were more words for that 1 missing block than I had guesses left. At some point it will happen on hard mode. On easy you should be able to prevent outright failure by eliminating letters, you will likely be giving up most of your 2 and 3 games though.
