bandaid.friend posted:I don't know any of these comics or movies, please can someone explain the joke to me? Pilchenstein posted:People are referencing this piece of poo poo comic that Ted Rall put out when Roger Ebert died: To expand on Pilchenstein's post, Ted Rall wrote an article in The Village Voice criticizing Art Spiegelman. From the Wikipedia entry on Maus: quote:In 1999, cartoonist Ted Rall had an article published in The Village Voice criticizing Spiegelman's prominence and influence in the New York cartooning community. Entitled "King Maus: Art Spiegelman Rules the World of Comix With Favors and Fear", it accused the Pulitzer board of opportunism in selecting Maus, which Rall deemed unworthy. Cartoonist Danny Hellman responded to the piece with a prank email in which Hellman posed as Rall, soliciting discussion at the email address TedRallsBalls@onelist.com. Hellman followed up by posting fake responses from New York magazine editors and art directors. Rall launched a lawsuit seeking damages of $1.5 million for libel, breach of privacy, and causing emotional distress. To raise funds to fight the suit, in 2001 Hellman had the Legal Action Comics anthology published, which included a back cover by Spiegelman in which he depicts Rall as a urinal. Here's the urinal comic; axolotl farmer posted:Choke on your own bile, Ted Rall. Note that through the wiki article I was able to find an archived article from Jewish World Review that reacted to Rall's criticisms. It had some opinions from other artists on Rall and the whole debacle. Some choice quotes: quote:Jesse Fuchs: I'm no Spiegelman apologist, and I think Rall made some decent points; most of his New Yorker covers have been more style than substance, his Pulitzer, though gratifying for any comics fan, doesn't really mean a hell of a lot, and he is, like most underground cartoonists of his generation, rather self-obsessed. But the piece as a whole was so pissy and ill-considered that any worthwhile points Rall might have made ended up buried under a mountain of sour grapes.

They'll stick to being wrong \ contrarian even when the consensus happens to be right (or even when you happen to side with the consensus and their disagreement is inconvenient to you). I mean, it pretty much is just bias, because a defining feature of that kind of labeling is that people so labeled will then see certain parts of life cut off to them on the expectation that they're going to be criminal or otherwise a problem. Shutting someone out of legitimacy means they'll be forced to seek the illegitimate.

Yeah because it's apparently not Trump since he wouldn't be eligible to run in 2028 if he's secret president now and Biden is just pretending to president from a Hollywood set

So what, big strong manly genius Trump has literally no power unless he's actively sitting in the most powerful office in the entire loving world? Like he doesn't even have any power or influence from when he was president?* He can't help? And he didn't get anything done while in office, either, and Garrison's whole angle at the time was "you need to re-elect Trump so he can do all those things he promised he would already have done by now. I was disappointed he didn't deliver, but that just means he needs even more time! Failure to make good on one's promise is a sign you should trust them more. THIS time he'll definitely do them." Maybe he's too busy being "confused" about vaccines to help plucky little America out, but Ben forgave him for that pretty quick. *This actually feels pretty true though. Trump, in so many ways that matter, feels like he just stopped existing when his term ended. He didn't leverage it into other political roles, his influence is largely "cultural" and most of his political sycophants are chasing his mantra and his goals, without caring at all about the man himself.
