Edit: I didn't wait, this is great! Thank you for uploading it, well done man. Thanks! Love the mellow guitar at the beginning with the harmony.

Thanks man I tinkered with my mix more on the track, had some saturators going a little haywire on the second half guitar harmonies and I also adjusted the stereo field a bit. I honestly had envisioned something pretty different when I put the drums together, but I enjoy where it went and getting there was fun.

Guy on youtube made a video about hiring people off Fiverr to remix a piano part of Beethoven's 5th. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNRBhq2oV8k I had the piano part stuck in my head for a couple of days so I made my own version of it. I can't find an orchestral version of Angel's Fear that is anywhere near as nice as yours, Woolwich, I was on a SNES music kick today and ended up playing your track a few times. Great job on it.

Great job on it. Thanks again! It means a lot to me to hear that. I made it because I get on those same kicks sometimes and I wasn't happy with anything I found either. My goal is to try and envision what the original composer would have done without the limitations. When you look at the original tracks you see where instruments come and go because they were at the limit so that helps too. I have a few other SNES rpg tracks I want to do in the future as well.

I've been working on a piece that uses traditional Chinese instruments. Here's my WIP so far: https://soundcloud.com/poltzart/east-wip2 The drums are pretty placeholder at the moment and need a lot of work, but do an ok job for now. Also it has no 'ending' and I'll probably add a full ensemble part at the end at the original tempo. edit: also played the intro dizi part on my keyboard instead of just putting in notes. Makes it feel so much more natural. First time doing that. I've found that my piano skills have gotten a lot better from actually working on music. My page has seen a lot of activity lately as I am sharing around some fun cover tunes I am building off backing tracks I got online. I expect to do a lot more of these, but only some of them kinda fit into what I charitably call my vocal range: The stuff at the top is super new, I posted like four things in the last 24 hours and took two down that were getting a lot of plays but weren't finished. https://soundcloud.com/dr-faustus777 Mary Had a Little Lamb Basket Case Interstate Love Song Love Rears Its Ugly Head ... are the four I have finished. I have Drop Dead Legs and 5150 started, but I can't sing that poo poo. I've got Pink Floyd, ZZ Top, Tom Petty, Weezer (Say It Ain't So is my personal alcoholism song, even though my Dad never drank) and a few other things I could find. More than enough to keep me playing and recording. Those new tunes show that my hands are starting to shape back up after about three months of off and on playing after a very long break. E: I had to take Basket Case down after I listened to the source material again. I gotta a: make those C#min chords pop. And also the guitar is solo hard right on the intro, then doubled hard-stereo for the rest of the tune, and the little octave ride at the end is actually overdubbed over the doubled rhythm guitars. Thing is, that is a lot of downstrokes in a short time. Like. A LOT. Dr. Faustus fucked around with this message at 09:41 on Dec 29, 2021 |

Inspiration struck the day before Christmas so I started on this piece. I wanted to work on something a lot more emotive than what I've done in the past, and this was the result. Also lots of chords. Just piano, violin, and cello. And it's actually human playable. I'm really happy with how it came out. The title comes from the ending, which to me sounds like a dream. https://soundcloud.com/poltzart/on-the-border-of-a-dream I will probably take the theme from this and turn it in to a faster orchestrated piece as well.

Today I released my 53rd song of the year, completing my project to release one song a week in 2021. Genre/style is all over the place because it's just whatever I felt like making and released as I finished. Not sure yet if I will continue this for 2022, I already have the habit and it's still fun so might as well. https://soundcloud.com/vicstra/sets/song-a-week-2021

Awesome! The Jonathan Coutlon "Thing a Week" (can I produce on a weekly deadline) experiment. You already did it, wow, amazing! I agree, might as well keep up the work ethic but you've done 53, give yourself two weeks per now but make them more elaborate, perhaps? I'm definitely hearing improvements in my production after just these last three tunes I put up. https://soundcloud.com/dr-faustus777 The goal of course is to move up from old, familiar cover tunes to new ideas. I have a growing folder of riffs and hooks and little song-y bits that I started in July. There is definitely enough in there for a couple original songs. I'm gonna stick with the covers until I run out of songs that fit my pitiful vocal range. I completely re-recorded the guitars on Basket Case. It's a lot better than v1. Ah for sure I already gave myself two weeks, I'm not making a track a week, just releasing a track a week so I do have a backlog ready to go. I'll go back to working on it on Monday and yes I want to s0pend a bit more time on them to make them better, and it will be ok if I miss a week every now and then because I already did the year thing.

Definitely props for making whatever the hell you feel like, I definitely could use a bit of that mentality Since someone else posted a Spotify link... Here's a song I just released a week or so ago. Kind of along the lines of post-rock but with an 808 and electronic drum samples and some other stuff. That's really the only genre I can think of. Maybe some very slight math rock vibes when it comes to the guitar riffs? Regardless it's probably my favorite song I've ever made (my latest song always is ) and any feedback is welcome! https://open.spotify.com/track/6Znv9j8nQSmvZmQpnO9WDf?si=nQCKvWstREqJF3cAr85ZuA Disclaimer: I'm still working with a ~$200 electric guitar that's set up like poo poo so the tone isn't the best. I'll be buying a much better guitar very soon which should make a huge difference in my music. But I think I'm making do alright for now

I couldn't help to edit down some recording of loops that slowly mutate. More than what I'm commenting on deserves more praise. That is always a given, because so much of this music is so good and sound professional. I just wish the world worked different so that we all could actually live off the effort that is put into this stuff. I actually really think a lot of these tracks are using unique sounds and staying away from cookie cutter formulas with sound design. It's tough to make a judgement on your own music. I listen to songs that I think are perfect, but to the artist themselves, they are often uncomfortable with it. Some of these reminds me of this Orb mix album "Impossible Oddities from Underground to Overground: The Story of Wau! Mr. Modo"; kinda like their all-time favorite tracks from back in the day that inspired them. I just remember I have a poster of this album cover, which there is a lot of spectacular stuff going on with it. Yeah those sounds are really interesting and is a chill melody. What is a data cassette exactly? Is it sampled from other music, or things that are recorded into it? (not that it makes a difference to me)

It's actually a cassette tape that data was recorded onto. Back in the days of the very first home computers many of them used cassette tapes for data storage. If you actually listened to the audio of one it sounded a lot like an old modem when they first connected. For example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVsY9PVIKsQ
