Battlegrounds is hilarious right now with the crazy imbalance between the various buddies.

For the new heroes, Bru'kan seems pretty good but not insane, Drek'Thar feels awful with a bad buddy and a weak hero power, Vandar can abuse Tarecgosa so he's great but Tavish is even better. I can't believe Tavish's hero power is free right now but I'm going to keep abusing it until the patch hits.

Tavish is close to but not quite the most degenerate hero in the history of the game. He's currently averaging very slightly over a 3.00 finish, which is more busted than Sneed and Scabbs at their best. I think Jandice got to 2.93 at the peak of Pogos, and that's the worst it's ever been.

What are the odds in BG of a game going to turn 15 and literally never seeing an Argus?

Let's say I hit level 4 at turn 7 and literally no one in the game has an Argus on their board and I roll an average of 7 times a turn and LITERALLY NEVER SEE AN ARGUS.

I have no idea what the odds are but it happens to me fairly often soooooo probably not bad

Millicient's bomb minion moved from tier 3 to tier 4, Tarecgosa moved from tier 3 to tier 4.

They REALLY wanted to get the Tarecgosa nerf out quickly...

Developer’s Note: Because this is a hotfix change, the changes will not show correctly while hovering over the minions in the shop, on the hero select screen, or when hovering over the Buddy Meter. This will be corrected in a future update.

I can't recall the last final two I had where the other guy didn't have Tarecgosa, so I'm glad they pushed this out server side.

On another note, every time I go into mercenaries training ground and assign a guy to train, my game crashes. It still assigns the merc but is anyone else having this happen?

Nope, that is coming in the next big patch. I assume it is something they can't hotfix. I think there is a work around if you have another device you can use to log in to hearthstone and try and get into duels.

Whilst I’m glad they have, I find it also interesting that ‘old’ Blizzard (the one who made all these IP, rather than the hollowed out Acti skin puppet they are), the one that was UI/UX obsessed, absolutely would not have done this. The very fact it wouldn’t end up consistent in the UI would have delayed the change.

Not necessarily a complaint (though I share that UX feeling, so I’d prefer it) but just… interesting.

(Up until the final turn I had two regular Tarecgosa and decided to combine them since I grabbed the Nadina)

The Tarecgosa nerf is good but Milli's bomb nerf won't do much. Her passive will get you to midgame to grab it, and once you have it, it's so easy to force draws at worst. It needs a damage nerf

Fun buddy fact: if Reno can get Elder Taggawag with Murozond, his hero power will be triggered by it. This is a recipe for infinite golden minions in a single tribe comp with a flex spot.

Man, this scenario seems like it happens way too often.

It's turn 10. I won every single match and maxed out the buddy meter until the previous one where I got smoked a bit. Is the buddy meter hard coded to stop at 98% for T3 buddies, because it seems like that happens A LOT. I'm about to get smoked next round, and I'll die without ever even getting to play my second buddy.

It appears so. Typically I think you're meant to get tier 2/3/4 buddies on turns 4/5/6 and 8/10/12 respectively, but the number of times that I've been stuck at 98% or 99% for the second round of buddies after a turn is ridiculous.

This is how it works with obfuscation, not how it works exactly.

There are no turn by turn decisions or long term strategies to devise because the specifics have not been given.

It is a mystery because we only know (some?) of the general mechanics not the specifics. There's no strategy to be had revolving around the buddies apart from the fact that it heavily punishes fast teching builds (alongside the 11 coins to T5 change).

I guess I don't see how knowing the exact percentages is going to change any strategy. You're completely at the mercy of RNG to not get buddy-screwed by players with overly strong or weak boards, much in the way you also get screwed by the minions offered, other player picks, and fight orders. It's a chaotic mode by design.

RNG and playing exact %'s is a big factor in the top tier play of most card games. Poker, Magic, Blackjack, Hearthstone, etc.

Otoh I'll grant the majority of hearthstone players never moved beyond valuestone.

You're not wrong, but I think some context is important because we see it within standard Hearthstone itself.

As power levels crept higher, we saw more and more solitaire style decks present. These decks did not care what your opponent did or played. They did not care if you countered their cards or not. They had one game plan and it would either go off and win, or would fizzle and lose. Mirror matches between solitaire involved very little strategy, you simple played the game out to see who drew their combo first. You could argue that maybe picking certain decks to play against the field mattered, but the important distinction is that the turn to turn gameplay was quite dire with so many of these decks present.

In competitive hearthstone, these were non-existent and instead featured many tactical decks, where turn based decision making really mattered.

I'm just saying that BGs are leaning more and more into the explosive powercreep solitaire model where there is no point in tactical buddy placements, you are either going to get screwed by the RNG or blessed by it, so your best optimization is to double down on your own gameplan.

I don't know about claiming there are no solitaire decks in competitive hearthstone.. Am I insane or during the last world championships were the most popular decks not Garrote rogue, Quest OTK DH, and Celestial Alignment Druid?

Whenever I see things like the Golden Standard Bundle ($49.99 for 10 packs and 2 Legendaries), I realize that despite the amount of Hearthstone I play and my collection I do not qualify as whatever they see as a whale. Do people actually care about Golden cards? I've always tended to disenchant them for dust (aside from the cards the generate other cards just because I think that's neat) and I guess I don't really notice the animations in game very often.

For the longest time I only had Golden Preparations just because of RNG when I was opening packs back in the day but I've never thought that I should go and start collecting a whole deck of Golden things.

I've never paid for a golden card, and I nuke most golden cards I get for crafting. The exceptions are cards that create other cards, which I keep in golden. If you have golden card creators then ultimately you have every other gold card anyway, even the Coin.

When I first started out a couple months back I disenchanted every single gold card I got for the dust, now that I have the cards for a couple meta deck archetypes I just let my duplicates pile up in the hopes of big refund payouts on nerfed cards in the future.. When the cards rotate to wild I will consider dusting any gold cards (and legendaries + epics) I don't think will ever be competitively viable in that format.

I got another legendary off of a random Alterac pack last night and I have to say my luck has been on point this expansion :) got the hero cards for Hunter, Paladin, Warlock, Rogue (since dusted), Druid and Shaman.. Usually I pull Grand Totem Eye'sor and that 8 mana druid legendary that makes the next 3 spells you draw cast when drawn.. I still gotta figure out a way to use that loving thing in a druid deck :(

**Oh and remembering the reason I wanted to post in this thread in the first place, the Golden card packs are generally considered to be really poor value for your money, even recognizing that they are basically wild card packs. Stay away :)

***And another thing that I'm just hearing about now (that I actually noticed last night but I didn't think anything of it) - there was supposed to be a lunar new year event for February 2nd which was a sequence of daily quests where you got packs for playing various game modes. Apparently there was a bugged implementation and some players are getting like.. 4 seperate copies of special daily quest sequences offering card packs.. as many as you have open slots in your daily quests. I got 2 of them last night, one was called "happy new year" and offered exclusively Scholomance and Darkmoon Faire packs, the other was "happy lunar new year" which was the one you were supposed to get for Feb 2nd 2022 offering Alterac Valley and Stormwind packs. Some people also got 2x "happy winter veil" quest lines which also offered a bunch of packs from this year and last year. It's like they accidently loaded all of these event quest events onto accounts.

So.... get your free packs while you can I guess.

I used to auto-dust Gold cards, but now that I have roughly 100% of all playable cards (87% total between Wild/Standard), I can just waste dust getting my Tonk deck to 100% Gold. I'm maybe? like 800 dust away from that. If your collection is small and you need the dust, go for it. It's just this fancy thing for high-level Wild players to show off how much time and money we've wasted. You can always re-craft them later if you're into that.

Burn Shaman's pretty fun. The 'OTK' is confusing to say the least, but Shaman has decent cards to play for board which is a nice crutch.

Cats like optical fibers.
I don't dust golden legendaries or non-duplicate epics since I might want to make a deck with them and don't want to recraft them later if they're good.

I do wish they'd implement an upgrade to gold function where it would be cheaper to convert an existing legendary to gold than have to craft a golden from scratch even if you already own the base. I'm not huge on golden cards, but every now and then a great combo of art/flavor/performance comes along and blowing 1600 dust on an upgrade might be worth it, like Instructor Fireheart or Guff Wildheart.
