Boris is like that guy in Star Wars.

Jabba the Hutt was one of the galaxy's most powerful gangsters, with far-reaching influence in both politics and the criminal underworld. There were no second chances with Jabba, something Han Solo would find out -- though the slug-like alien would ultimately fall victim to his own hubris and vengeful ways.

That's not true at all. John Doe planned more than five minutes ahead. He also hated greedy lawyers, narcissistic people, sex workers and child molesters.

Apropos of nothing but it's so weird that we have, in 2022, a borough council that gets it's name from some Medieval lord seeing blonde people and thinking "Hey they must be Danes, and as we all know, Danes actually come from Dacia (modern day Romania) so I shall call this place "the Hundred Of The Dacians"" and calling it a day.

(Also that the reaction of people in the Hundred Of The Dacians to seeing actual Dacians was to vote to leave the EU)

Sometimes, in a city this dirty, you need a real hero.
I am I not right in thinking that all of these polling shifts ultimately don't matter as 30-35% of the country are die hard conservative voters, rich enough and savvy enough to only ever vote tory to keep themselves well off?

And that's the magic number to keep them in power forever with fptp.

Yeah, when a GE happens, that bloc votes with their economic interests, no matter what they might say in midterm polling. That's why this energy crisis might have political consequences: people who are normally insulated from that sort of thing are going to get hit hard in the wallet for once.

Yeah, this will poison a lot more people than the parties. We will always see a return to the norm, but we might see that norm slowly drop after each successive sandal.
Of course, at the moment, the sandal are coming to quick to gauge what the norm is now.

I'm still of the opinion the Torys will wait untill 6 months out from the election to oust Boris, then run on a platform of "only we can fix the mistakes of Boris Johnson" (despite the cabinet being 95% unchanged.)
Then win.

I think Boris has right hosed up with Saville. That's something you keep for the last two weeks of a GE campaign and he spent it on an extra week in no. 10.

By the time of the next GE it will be long forgotten apart from it being bollocks.

If Keith had the skill he could have gone with "taking responsibility is what leaders do" but glad he didn't as he would gently caress that right up.

God yes. Below inflation pay rises for since Cameron got in.

I'm fully expecting this years to be something like 4% - sounds big, but is just another pay cut in a year inflation will get to 7%.

And you still get people harping on how we're well paid - yes the average wage is higher - that's only because they privatized all the cleaning staff and other low paid positions.

It's what's for dinner.
Would you like to see a :qq: about landlords in the Telegraph

Landlords hit with £15,000 bills in 'levelling up' plans
Michael Gove threatens to strike off rogue landlords

quote:

Hundreds of thousands of landlords face bills of £15,000 as housing secretary Michael Gove cracks down on poor-quality rental homes.

The Government will introduce a new minimum standard that will push landlords to upgrade an estimated 800,000 rental properties.

Max Armstrong, of North East Property Investment, a buy-to-let specialist, said the cost of bringing a three-bedroom house up to scratch would be £12,000 to £15,000. Additional costs could be added by the supply chain crisis and rising materials and labour costs. “Three years ago this would cost 25pc less,” he said. :qq:

The legislation will be announced as part of Mr Gove’s "levelling up" agenda – which focuses on improving poorer parts of Britain – due to be unveiled today. The minister also plans to introduce a register for anyone wishing to let out property – with rogue landlords being struck off – while also giving tenants new rights for redress.

[...]

Chris Norris, of the National Residential Landlords Association, a trade body, estimated costs would be between £10,000 to £15,000 for an extremely substandard home.

However, he described the Decent Homes Standard – which measures to what extent a home meets a “reasonable state of repair” – as arbitrary and subjective. "I would be very concerned if the social housing measures are applied to private rentals. It would be counterintuitive." :qq:

Mr Armstrong added: "Everything is pre-faced with 'to a reasonable level' and it is just a get out clause." :qq:

The additional burden on landlords (:qq:) comes while they are also being forced into £10,000 eco-upgrades to meet the Government’s Energy Performance Certificate targets. Experts have warned more will sell up adding to the rental sector's severe shortage of homes that has pushed up rents. (this is bad for renters too!! promise!!!)

Dominic Agace, of Winkworth estate agents, said landlords should be incentivised to improve properties rather than threatened. “A register will increase the burden on landlords – which will be self-defeating as they will sell up, increase the shortage of homes, and rents will rise," he added.

Ros Beck, 56, a landlord with multiple properties in Wales, said: "This is bound to make many want to sell, but will anybody buy? It’s a nightmare for those affected, stuck between a rock and a hard place." :qq::qq::qq:
