police departments accept donations so you can skirt those thorny bribery accusations. they set up non profit foundations and you get a tax writeoff too

American's been raiding outside its borders since before it was a country. This is just continuing centuries of tradition.

some of them have started doing a thing where if you donate to the police then you get a special light to display on the front of your home or business so they can see who has and hasn't paid the protection money

i dunno, even if your state has passed a law making it legal to run over protestors blocking the road, attempting it against an eighteen wheeler protected by police SUVs poses a considerable physical challenge

It's not like the truckers are either inconveniencing anyone important or agitating for anything that would, so I'm not sure why they'd get any blowback.

supposedly it's about vaccine mandates for truck drivers

in reality something like 95% of Canadian truck drivers are double vaccinated, so it's actually the reactionary right seizing on what they think sounds like a populist excuse to rally people around antivax and anti-government rhetoric

as usual, it is the state and its violence workers bending over backwards to accommodate the worst minority of people while the rest of us suffer

What this trucker's protest illustrates to me is that owner-operators are petit bourge scum. I can't imagine company drivers being allowed to take company rigs on an anti-vax protest.

Couple days late, but there's no such thing as a tax write off in the weed industry. IRS section 280E. Only thing deductible is cost of goods sold (inventory).

State taxes are different, but the IRS doesn't give a gently caress.

Yes, obviously. Also wearing glasses is the sign of intellectual counter-revolutionaries and tradesmen that own their own tools are obviously labor aristocracy class traitors and wreckers.

and... you think that's a good and leftist take? that the company owning the means of production is good because corporations can control people's free expression?

proletarians being generally more politically reliable than petite bourgeois isn't a super hot take. Calling owner-operators petite bourgeois is sort of a hot take, but the sort of debt obligations they are under seems to fit the general method of exploitation the PB faces in imperialist countries. The real hot take would be to argue that owner-operators are lumpen.

proletarians can still be dumbasses, I know I am, but there's a reason Marxists identify them as the class that will be the foundation of any socialist revolution. The Bolsheviks were able to concretely bring in peasants and oppressed nationalities, but I'm not sure how the peasantry aspect applies in the US.

the owner operator is the middle peasant constantly oscillating between destitution, debt bondage and some minor accumulation of wealth

they aren't petit bougie or lumpens these guys are like the farmers in india and from a class perspective they should be supported against trudeau's neolib police state

No the hot take is the implication that it would be better if the corporations owned the trucks so they couldn't be used to protest.
