I ended today on level 8, I figure the strategy is to just use the wand for most of it and dodge what I can't deflect but I'm still a little floored by how they chose to do that level.

Played a bit of this with a friend and we made it to the first boss which was a piece of poo poo, but mostly i bemoaned snes9x. For some loving reason it didnt let him walk in diagonals on an xbox controller, and trying to configure the diagonal binds (which it has for some reason) was impossible cause itd detect either direction when trying to input a diagonal. Also the cable seems to be hosed and when it reconnected the emulator wouldnt recognize it. Im going back to zsnes after this

had a weird amount of trouble with Foxy, but the level after that was pretty easy and i didn't really have many problems with Impy. up to stage 5 now, first shmup stage, and not having the wand anymore means i'm in trouble! (also a shmup with the wand mechanic would be pretty cool. missed opportunity tbh) really enjoying this game

 I never got good at dodging that sword beam I just got a lot better at timing my throwing attack to basically take off a full candle of health each time.

 Fun as hell game, the difficulty really ramps up in the last few stages. The dragon shmup level was probably my least favorite, and the ninjas in the last level kept getting me until I started using the wand more often

You can cross over if the dragon is low enough. And you can even cross over Bolta's back if the dragon is high enough but I wouldn't ever try it

I got past stage 8 and started liking the game again then I got to the stage 9 bossrodbeard posted:I managed to get killed in the second impy fight by beating her while her homing projectile was still in air. It kept moving while the cutscene started and I couldn't control my character. This happened to me too and i got momentarily jokerfied

explaining to my now long suffering partner: see i needed this first crt for lightgun games, unfortunately its composite only which doesn't provide the clearest possible picture due to all the signal being combined. that's why i use the widescreen crt which has component and s-video, its not ideal for older systems due to digital input lag and incompatibly with lightguns, but more modern systems such as the ps2 really shine on here due to the widescreen and progressive scan. now the sony wega, here is something special....

Not sure if it’s placebo effect but it literally felt like I got better at this and Axelay when I moved from emulating on my PC to playing on actual hardware on my CRT lol.
