What's the deal with you making me think Jerry Seinfeld was dead, and him not actually being dead?

Data Graham posted:Doesn't "prove" mean "test" in the context of this phrase's etymology? i.e. "proving ground" It does! The idea is you make a rule (things fall) find some exception (helium balloons don't), and then use that to test if the rule is valid or if it needs adjustment to incorporate the exception (things fall if they are heavier than air fits all the exceptions so far), and continue until you figure out the actual rule. The actual rule here being "people skip titles unless they go real hard."

Tv show themes always have lyrics, even if not used, and the credited writer gets royalties. Famous examples include the original Star Trek’s theme having terrible lyrics never designed to be heard that brought Roddenberry millions, or Suicide is Painless from MASH.

OK what are the lyrics to Klaus Doldinger's seminal theme song for "Ein Fall für Zwei?" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NafwgXcgBB8 ...or Paavo Raninen's Pienviljelijän masurkka ("Smallholder's Mazurka"), composed for the ultra-boring soap opera Rintamäkeläiset? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ApcDd4xj3LU

Mr. Fix It posted:It was Robert Altman's son. It was used in the movie which predates the show and didn't have Alan Alda in it. Yeah, the 1970 movie has the song with lyrics twice, over the opening credits like the later TV series, and then a character sings it during a later scene in the movie, which is what it was originally written for and the idea of using over the credits came later. The TV series that started in 1972 uses a shorter instrumental version (Which they slightly rearranged every few seasons) for its theme.
