Yeah but the thing is that even the highest grades of uranium ore shouldn’t have done that much damage to him.

I think he just got hit worse by radon in the cave.

It also seems possible to me that the mine had something else poisonous in it, like hydrogen sulfide or arsenic compounds, that caused the immediate health effects, and the presence of radioactive minerals was a coincidence.

When I had just started kitchen work for the first time my boss had me do some prep and cut up like 20 pounds each of onions and poblano peppers. When I was done I removed my gloves and wiped the sweat/onion tears out of my eyes. I had been completely oblivious until that moment that there had been a cut in my gloves and spent the next 10-15 minutes crying over the hand wash sink, trying to rinse out my eyes.

https://www.ntsb.gov/investigations/AccidentReports/Reports/RAR1701.pdf

quote:

The driver moved beyond the highway-railroad grade crossing boundary (stop line) and stopped adjacent to the railroad tracks. The grade crossing warning system activated and the gate came down, striking the rear of her vehicle. She then exited her vehicle and examined the gate. The driver then returned to her vehicle and moved forward on to the tracks. Meanwhile, Metro-North Railroad passenger train 659, consisting of eight passenger railcars, traveled north and approached the highway-railroad grade crossing at a speed of 59 miles per hour. The engineer from train 659 activated the train’s emergency brakes about 260 feet before the highway-railroad grade crossing and collided with the sport-utility vehicle at a recorded speed
of 51 miles per hour.

I'm honestly surprised the train was able to slow down even that much in only 260 feet.

They're light mostly electric commuter trains that stop every two miles. They can brake pretty hard.

gloves are obviously the first layer of defense, but iirc a good eats episodes, Brown says a very dilute bleach solution does chemistry magics to capsaicin and makes it into water soluble salts that wash away easier. (obviously this is for hands, iff you already touched your eyes, nose, other soft tissue, your junk, your partners junk, etc you just have to deal with it)

Is it supposed to have sound? I assume that the sketchy thing is that the support cables appear to be vibrating like a guitar string, right?

Son of Thunderbeast

It's probably fine, and the vibration's probably inevitable. It just looks precarious and being posted in the OSHA thread I was expecting the cables to snap or something

The best thing about this thread is that it's a roughly even split of sketchy stuff that goes poorly, sketchy stuff that goes unexpectedly well, and impressive workmanship and safety. It makes every video clip an emotional rollercoaster.
