Well it helps to remember it's just a commercial. It'll be cool if there's any interesting reveals but most of them have been pretty lame, historically speaking. It's okay because they're literally commercials/marketing promos

Going in with zero expectations is a good approach imo

Again a very likpatous story
I genuinely have no expectations for tomorrow because I can't think of anything I want that Nintendo would actually do. I'll at least be able to look forward to seeing more info about the new Kirby game, I mean hopefully they'll have a bit more than just replaying the most recent trailer. I figure we'll probably see more info about Voice of Cards 2 which is an absolute immediate buy for me since I enjoyed the first one so much, that was completely unexpected as well.

Other than that the only things I'd want are Metroid Prime Trilogy/Wind Waker ported to the Switch (pretty unlikely), OoS/OoA remakes (extremely unlikely), FFT/FFPR ports for the Switch (also extremely unlikely), and a Pokemon Conquest remaster/sequel or a Pokemon Musou (literally not a chance in hell).

True the first party landscape is kind of zzz. That Kirby game looks bad rear end tbh but it's been so long since botw, it's really hard to feel hyped for a sequel to a five year old game that will likely reuse the engine and tons of assets unless they get really creative with it

Ports and indies meanwhile stay winning

I just want new, first party titles announced. I know a ton of people would love to play Wind Waker HD and Metroid Prime on their Nintendo Switch but I just can't get excited for poo poo like that at all. Give me Super Mario Strikers X and a new Wario Land game. Maybe a new 2D Zelda title made by one of their smaller studios.

Wario went fully corporate tho, why would he go out on his own adventures when he can just farm game dev work to 1099 contractors in diamond city instead

I thought botw was really neat but not like anticipate its sequel for five years neat. I'll definitely play botw 2 when it comes out but could give less of a poo poo about it until it's physically in stores

Majoras was pretty polarizing to me back then personally. I liked OoT way better, MM was just a cheap rental for me. I appreciate it more now, but I still prefer oot for being a fuller more complete and varied game

MM had a very cool vibe I'll give it that, I wish Nintendo leaned into unsettling and bizarre/creepy more

Reminder that the BOTW2 trailer features what appears to be desiccated Ganondorf, pinned in place for hundreds or thousands of years, a corpse presumably kept alive with nothing but seething, magical hate.

I think that might be the direction they're going.

Fair points, and the fact that we have seen so little during all this time makes me think they're doing something substantially different or maybe experimenting with the botw formula behind the scenes. Unless I've missed something, all we've seen so far is that one preview video right? Might not even be a final look or anything like that

Not a dealbreaker necessarily. (Ok a little bit of dealbreaker).

I wouldn't mind playing a streamlined FF1. I always liked that game and it's D&D with numbers filed off class set-up. Is there any good throwback class-based RPG like that on the market? Not Octopath, I already played and beat it and sold it back (with a minimum of regret). I don't see myself replaying it, just need to listen to the music is all. No lie, it's definitely a top 10 maybe top 5 JPRG soundtrack depending on how you're ranking. I don't even want a lot of plot. Just some heroes in rather strict classes that you set out on a quest to kill monsters and then level up. I've come to the realization I'm no good with Job Systems, I say this while still having Bravely Default to finish. I checked out either the Fire or Earth temple, I can't remember. I should get back to it...

The GBA release of FF1 was already kinda streamlined! I actually played every GBA FF quite a bit, and since those were sold as individual releases I think I did unironically spend $100+ of early 2000s money on them. Unfortunately all of my GBA games are lost to the wind besides FF4, FF Tactics, and Super Mario World

Bravely Default 2 on Switch is alright but I think the general feeling is it starts off as an awesome old school throwback and kinda gets worse as you go along. SMT 5 is not job based at all but it is heavily combat focused, the combat system is very good, and as you go along you keep fusing demons into one another to make a better team. I have not personally played Dragon Quest 11 but people really like that as a classic rpg

Mister Facetious posted:

Confession: I like the combat but the grind and character drop rates are loving BULLSHIT.

It was actually one of the first things I downloaded on PS5 because it was one of the first games to get a PS5 native release (and it did look and run great I have to say)

It was such a shame that the pretty well designed world and combat were attached to the grinding system that they were. I have played loads of gacha games, I play online card games, I'm well aware of the bullshit of lootboxes and rare drops but Genshin makes the progress SO slow and SO grindy and has some really basic rules that they break when it comes to lootbox poo poo that make it terrible.

Also did not help that the voice acting and story were terrible in every single language

My prediction is this is the direct of the obscure 90s shmup revivals.

Pocky and Rocky remaster release date, Platinum Games is working on their shmup (maybe even gets an OUT NOW?). Maybe give a Nintendo franchise to a shmup developer like they did with Zelda + Warriors. F Zero is back! As a vertical scrolling SHMUP, sorry. 2022 is the revival of shmups

Yes I just noticed recently that the switch has an amazing catalog of shmups. If you've ever been interested in the genre at all pretty much every CAVE game was recently ported and nobody was really talking about it

https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/dodonpachi-resurrection-switch/ This is a great starting point if you want to get into the bullet hell super hard games, the recent ports have extra difficulty modes too so you can ramp up with multiple difficulties of "Novice" mode before trying to beat the game without using continues on the normal mode

Also the ports let you turn your switch sideways and use it as a vertical screen (since the games were designed for that originally)
