I worked for Verizon way back when I was in college and was there for three or so years? Anyway when I started they gave you really good deals on phones and phone plans but by the end it was just boring 20% of or something honestly I don’t remember exactly but it definitely got shittier over those three years

Anyway no reason not to take the discount but that’s a different kind of product

Apparently WeWork was very cultish, I feel like a lot of tech companies promote the company as lifestyle because they're competing for a limited talent pool and they don't want their people to leave

I've gone through so much interview and promotion bullshit over the years that I can talk at length about my companies 6 values and 4 principles and tell little stories about how it relates to my personal and career development. Of course, it's all lies and made up stories that I use to con them to give me more money

I used to say things like that, but turns out you can double (or more) your salary without doing any more work, by harnessing the power of corporate bullshit. It's insanely easy if you're the kind of analytical person who can intuit what others want to hear, the hard part is not letting the persona consume the "real you". It's ok for me cause I only have to switch it on for rare occasions but if you had to keep up the corporate pretence constantly it would get you eventually

Has a younger colleague ever asked you for advice on how you got to where you are in person and then as an answer you suddenly turned on the corporate persona and told them all the bullshit stories while constantly wearing a fake smile and just never loving blinking while their face turns increasingly panicked and they start to back up slowly and glance around for exits?

Ha. Honestly the one thing that's gonna bite me in the rear end is I put on a show for the higher ups but then real-talk to the people at my level and below (in terms of corporate hierarchy of course, they're not "below" me in any other sense). So if one of them gets promoted above me then the jig is up!

The twist: Your "real talk" is just another aspect of your corporate ghoul persona, to stop the natives from getting restless.

The companies I worked at usually offered discounts on products they made or sold, so you'd have items from there because after discount it's just the cheapest thing to own.
Some though are real cult companies, like every crypto company I've ever interviewed with.

I wonder if I get a discount on cash registers or something...

We do sometimes get discounts from our corporate clients though if we ask their PM's nicely, I used that to get 20% off some booze once that was nifty.
