Meanwhile in the tiny satrapy of Finland... The chairman of the Parliamentary Committee of Foreign Affairs, Mika Niikko (The Finns, a right wing conservative party) tweeted on Tuesday that Macron or some other "wise man" of the west should defuse the situation by telling Ukraine that they will not become a Nato member. As a background, he's a Pentacostal conservative who's previously been claimed to be influenced by China because of his business ties there. This tweet was immediately shot down by everyone, including his own party, as it was opposite to Finland's official stance, and due to his position in the committee he should have been more careful about his messaging. Soon after, he resigned from the chair. Now TF is proposing for the position their previous party leader, Jussi Halla-aho ("the Master" as the alt-right pepes call him). Halla-aho is an agnostic PhD of Old Church Slavonic and also a conscientous objector to conscription (although he's later regretted this) and also plays speed metal in a band called Blasphemia. He's been convicted to fines of hate speech against Muslims and Somalians, who he wrote in his blog are pedophiles and robbers. So, a very nice bloke overall. Anyway, he has a very different view to Russia, saying that all negotiations should be ended because Russia is not interested in actual negotiations, period. Finland is being the cleverest participant. With a bunch of stuff to stake against Russia, if Finland joins Sweden will join too, and Putin is like wait what this is the opposite of what I wanted. Some posters previously said that at least Putin is a rational actor. His not a rational actor. His dislike or Rusdias internal affairs and love for geopolotics has become a meme now. Babushkas crying out to Putin that bukwheat became unaffordable and he brushes that aside as beneath his station because his is not buckwheat but rather a world leader who redraws borders and changes governments. He is not admitted to the border changing table so he is crying out, "pls talk to me" because he is getting old existential crysis of not becoming the greatest leader is creeping in. There are a bunch of plays you can do to influence the countries on global scale: 1. Money, strIght up bribe the government which USA and China do fairly fairly succesfully. Russia doesnt have that. 2. Economy, this is what EU does, you want access to our market of stupidly rich people give us some concessions, Russia cant compete there. 3. War. Gimme what I want or I will wreck you. This is the final say that Russia has on anything whatsoever yet they bully on Ukraine instead of their real enemies USA and europe. Not only it is very unclear if they are cspable of winning this war without country wide mobilisation, there is literally nothing that they could gain there.

All you can say is that someone has aligned their self interest with their actions. what is a thing however is success. Putin has been very successful. if he wasnt we'd be talking about him like kerensky. I tend to believe that Putin is deeply aware of the potential cost of invasion on Russia, had believed the threat of force would be sufficient, had not anticipated the Western pushback being on the scale that it is, and is still making up his mind on following through. His yelling at the French reporters is demonstrative of this. That's why I think stonewalling on Ukraine is the right approach. Shut down the bullshit ultimatums, while taking time to remind him that he got himself into this mess and that everyone's willing to meaningfully engage with him on other matters if he stops throwing this tantrum.
